Sunday, Oct. 27th. We had a wonderful drive through the Arkansas Mt's along route 270 in the western part of the state. Lots of autumn colors, beautiful mountain scenery, good road. Just the time we crossed over into Oklahoma things changed a bit! The road was in poor shape and there wasn't the attention to a litter free state that we had experienced in Arkansas.

... and warm-hearted people today…what a nice town to spend a day in. As Cliff said, no one’s in a huge rush around here and everyone knows each other, so it makes for a very welcoming atmosphere. We were even told to keep the combination code to the gate lock at the fairgrounds in case we ever pass through there again and need a free place to stay. I really love small towns and I’m really humbled by how inviting they’ve been to us…

We were on I-40 all day. We got on in construction, one lane but it was moving pretty good ...

... friends) played the TAPS (melodic version of The Last Post) from his bike which was very well received. It was a real shame that there were only about 15 bikes (+2x Brits) that went up there and then onto the Muskogee AL Post to support the end-of day presentations. The AL Post had prepared food for 250 people and only about 50 in total turned up. Although we had just spent nine hours in the saddle in searing heat, it was still disappointing that not ...

... traffic was so heavy on both interstate and cross roads. Decided it would be a hassle so we kept trucking.

Made it to Muskogee in eastern Oklahoma about 25 miles north of I40 as I wanted to stay at HI Express and none on interstate. A long and tiring day. Tomorrow its through Arkansas to Jackson, TN which is 70 miles north of Shiloh. ...
