Well,
we made it back from Nicaragua without too much trouble. It was a nice
trip although it rained alot while we were there. Too bad vacation was
during the rainy season. Oh well. It cleared up enough for us to see
the town(island) of Blue Fields. It is very small but charming and
safer than most places these days. It didnt turn out like we had
planned but as usual God knew best and we were able to accomplish even
more than we expected. Here is a brief account of ...
LIMON, Costa Rica whomshallisendWell, I'm told the rainy season has started again. It begins in May and rains for 6 months. My response to that news was that I never knew the rain had stopped. However, there is a difference. It was raining only at night for the past couple of nights. Now it has rained all night and into the day, we lost power in the night (not water yet) and it is raining loud enough that you have to raise your voice to talk to the person standing next to you. If that isn't enough, there is ...
LIMON, Costa Rica whomshallisendIn the night, we heard sleet hitting the windows, and when we woke up, it started to snow. We had pretty much packed up the motorhome last night, so we got on the road early, only to drive for 2-3 hours through frequent white-out conditions, and as much as 5 inches of snow all around us! It WAS pretty on the trees, though, since it was wet enough to stick to the branches.
Limon, Colorado, United States pykesonthego... open but there is a space at the top of it that has a 24" x 30" glass in it and about 10" between the door frame and the security door. They got the glass out and stuffed one of them in and opened the door from the inside. When I came around the corner they had the lights on and were hauling stuff out. My first thought was it was people from a church that use the school to meet in. But they don't use the computer lab and they don't have t-shirts wrapped around ...
LIMON, Costa Rica whomshallisend... swing. On Sunday August 23, we had a baptism service. (My first one in the ocean) I think I heard some of the swimmers were a little put off since we took over a small section of this nice little lagoon for about an hour. Anyway there were eleven scheduled for baptism, when they were finished the Pastor gave an altar call and 3 more came forward from the congregation. One was a young boy who decided the night before that he wanted to be baptized. His grandmother who is on ...
LIMON, Costa Rica whomshallisend... was overcast/rainy in Boulder/Denver, but beautiful and sunny on our hike above the clouds. The summit was awesome, as was the wind up there...probably a steady 40 knots, with an air temp around forty. Thank goodness for the sun. After the hike, we returned to Mark/Bettina's and had a 2 hour power nap before dinner in town at a nice French bistro ...
Denver, Colorado, United States erich.noriega... on and certainly know is that we did not want a heavy bag. A bag that towers over the head making you top heavy, that hurts your shoulder and hips to carry, and that taking on and off requires a squat thrust and a power lift. Riding with them in a crowded subway makes you a teetering hazard, and I hate the way that hotel managers look at you to ask their price, then tell them that you are going to walk around a bit to check out other rates. With a sixty pound bag ...
Denver, United States longwalktour... exploring the boroughs - Brooklyn's tree-lined Park Slope, Astoria's European melting pot, and Manhattan's Times Square movie theatre, where we experienced our last American movie-going experience (we give "Wedding Crashers" our highest New York rating - 5 cheap plastic Empire State Building key chains!!). Halfway through the movie, the giddy, anxious, stomach-dropping reality really hits us - tomorrow we are off to London!!
Denver, Colorado, United States courtandjohn... and challenge us, except now our friends and families come in handier than our quick-dry underwear (hence the title of this travelogue). We've had some time to appreciate what an incredible experience it was to take a year-long honeymoon and reflect back on how much we saw and did over the course of last year. We've condensed many of our stories into "bite-sized" versions that can be retold at a cocktail party or to the incredulous person who asks: "How did you pack for one year ...
