... the heck we are doing here (although the thought did cross my mind!) I am thankful for the amazing adventures I have had over the past 7 months while on my leave... the beautiful places I have seen, the friends and family I have had the opportunity to visit with/travel with, and the freedom to do, or not do, pretty much what I wanted. I know how fortunate I am and want to thank everyone for coming along for the journey.

We left the Namib desert and headed towards Sesrium, not too long in the truck today apparantly. We stopped at the smallest town in Namibia, a place called Solitaire, seemed to be like a Wild West town, I managed to find Jess a book on spiders of Africa, although she is scared of them she is really interested in them also, she seemed really pleased by it. In Joshua Tree NP we walkedto a few of the rocky outcrops. It was up to 38C (100F) but because of the low humidity it really didn't seem that bad. Once we got back into LA I really noticed the difference though. As we neared the edge of LA there was a massive area of wind turbines as well as a stretch of solar panels.
It took us about an hour and a half to get from the edge of LA to ...

Joshua Tree

... the temperatures moderate a bit to the low 90's, and we find a cool campsite with some massive boulders formed eons ago by volcanic activity. Then a driving tour of the park to see the many Joshua Trees which give the park its name (incidentally, the Joshua Tree got its name because somebody thought it looked like the biblical Joshua extending his arms up to heaven, and indeed it does; pop culture trivia fans may also note that the band U2 had ...
