    It's like magic. I spoke last entry of finally taking that left turn eastward and how I hoped the wind would be at my back. I had 25 miles to go and 3 hours of sunlight left. I usually make it if I put my head down and ride as hard as I can. Up hills or down hills, I just work. It's exhausting, but I usually make it.

    ... had a great view of the mountains to the west and the snow in the vicinity of Donner Pass bringing back memories of our trip through here last spring. Heading home along the Truckee River, the lighting was wonderful. With the river, the railroad and the highway side by side through the valley, it is easy to understand why this valley has served as an important transportation route since the years of exploration.
