... They told us it was the biggest European palace second to the Hermitage in St. Petersburg in Russia. So cool.
We ate lunch and then we decided to split up. The girls and I went to the pool, Braydon and Jenni went on the tour of the stadium and Barb was the smart one and stayed at the hotel and took a nap.
Tonight we are going to dinner and waiting for the sun to go down to see Plaza Mayor at night.

We have a 5 hr flight to Minneapolis and the a 55 min flight to Des Moines. We paid for upgrade seating with more leg room......best $$$ I have spent. We had lots f eg room and each seat had a flip-up tv monitor with free movies or tv, which really made the 5 hr flight go by quickly.

Got in Des Moines at 11:00 pm and we were home about midnight.

What a great adventure this has been.

... to Des Moines, Iowa. We had all been dreading this leg of the trip for months now, but it had to be done. It was a long day and everything looked the same. Thats really all that happened. Our hotel in Clive, just outside of Des Moines is really nice. It looks more like an apartment than a hotel room. Tomorrow we reunite with 3C and all my friends back at Taylor. Can't wait!

Keep it real,

Day 2: 4 states, 27 degrees, many white knuckles

A travel blog entry by freedom50plus on Feb 20, 2015

Our day on the road started at 6:45, with 769 Kms under our belt already, in a very fresh -24 degrees Celsius. Our day entailed four states: Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Iowa including 100 Kms of the worst highway surface conditions either of us have ever endured (yes, even worse than Port Elgin Christmas of 1984 or Grand Forks, ND conference champs of 2006) and there was not even any 'active' weather. Black ice, hard packed snow and crazy drivers made the experience frightful, but ...
