... Oaks was alive with SUMMER and SCARLET TANAGERS. You know it is a good day when you stop taking point blank photos of these two species when you get bored with them. I filled a 32 GB card today mostly of the tanagers. There were also a ridiculous number of ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS and YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOOS here. At one point, I had a male grosbeak, 2 cuckoos, a male summer and a male scarlet tanager in my binoculars!!! WHAT????
Our first stop was to be Canyon Lake where we were to spend the day drinking beers while drifting down the Guadalupe River on inner tyre tubes. Once we got up there we pulled the pin on the idea on account it was overcast and a bit to chilly to get half nude and drink ice cold beers.

After Lynn had her weekly "conference call" with her friends in Helena and had swept the floor, we took off for a bit of discovery in the Park. We were looking for the Village Creek Trail, but found only a bit of the creek. We followed the Loblolly Trail a bit and two or three others and finally did the Village Slough Trail again. ... after lunch. Our site is surrounded by tall coniferous and deciduous trees on two sides and an abundance of birds can be seen and heard in the understory. We like that, as you well know.
