    Broken AC, staff helped out.

We had a broken AC unit in our room and it was over 100 outside. The staff was friendly about finding us another room. The place was under renovation and was being painted so we got a deal and I barely smelled the paint fumes. So all in all blah bluh blah bluh. Sorry, that happens every once in a while since I stayed there.

Topeka to Independence what a ride. There is no signs saying you are crossing the state line. So we missed a picture opportunity. We will try and make it up along the way. We had visitors this evening Jeff, Beth, Jenifer, & Chandi stopped by our hotel. We had a great visit with them. Miss Chandi looked great after all she has been ...

After Denver (our halfway point- yeah!), we drove another long stretch of US highway (which included the first 8 miles of the interstate highway system constructed in the '50s) to Kansas City, KS. During our stay we had "Oklahoma Joe's Kansas City BBQ" which Anthony Bourdain christened as one of thirteen ...

Today we leave St. Louis, but stop at the Cathedral Basilica, as the Tripadvisor suggests. It turns out to be totally worth it!

This massive cathedral is built in roman-catholic style, built in 1907. We participate some of the ongoing Sunday mass. The church interior is just beautiful and stunning, Jeanny says this ...

Also, the kids LOVED finding out what cattails can do when you smash them up (I never knew! Found them as we took a hike in a park in rural Johnson Co., KS) - but what a mess! (I know, I know - not the way that Tony looked at them...) It did look like snow (my niece was even making "snow angels" ...

... trying to lose ourselves in Doolin or driving through the winding roads of Crete. We could have scaled all the peaks in the Lake District or walked all of the footpaths in the Cotswolds. We could have finished our hitching around the ring of Kerry or climbed to the top of Carrauntoohil, but we would not have had time to experience the wonders of Athens, the great wine of Beaune or the solitude of the Aran Islands. So many ...
