Fargo ND to Glendive, MT

... We also had lunch at the "chuckwagon buffet" which was all you could eat of everything - so I told the kids this was dinner and to eat till they burst and take extra cookies out with them ! After we left Medora late in the day it was such a beautiful sky and had just begun to cool off that we decided to drive until sunset which is about 8pm now. How the daylight hours are changing now with fall approaching ! By 7:45 we pulled into a small town called ...

Wiping the goo out of my eyes

... we head to the Lakes in the Brainerd, MN. area. Thanks for all your postings. I will add more about our short visit to Rushmore and our wonderful time at my Aunt Silvia's farm. The girls, and especially I, LOVED it there. I just wanted to let you all know we are safe and sound, despite being without any cell phone service until midnight, when it was too late to return any calls. Hugs to everyone. Time for some home made blueberry pancakes and zucchini bread.

We keep on moving...

... there would be no Bison left that he aimed to kill one and take it home for everyone to see ( ha, ha, the irony!). We think he may be our favorite President if people really have favs.

We then headed East, busted through Bismarck (the capital of ND) to the eastern border and the town of Fargo. Fargo is a nice town with beautiful recreation areas and a multicultural feel that we ...

Drive and drive

... the road, so it seems there is also a horse industry in the area. Today we crossed the Mississippi River in Brainerd, Minn. It was just about the same size as the Mississippi in Carleton Place. We also crossed the Red River coming into Fargo N.D. We saw three trains today loaded with coal headed east. On a giant billboard we saw the message "Be Grateful" and we are!

Barnes, WI to Moorhead, MN

After having a good nights sleep, some good morning coffee and conversation with Gus we headed to downtown Barnes and the Downtown Cafe for breakfast. There is nothing like a good breakfast at a good eating place in northern Wisconsin. And, I was not let down this morning as we all had a good breakfast.

We went back to Gus's place and started getting our stuff together and the truck loaded. We were off down the road at about 10am.

The wind was ...

... did nothing. A little disappointing, but overall worth stopping to see.

We ate at a local pancake house, gassed up, and jumped over into Nebraska to say we'd been there. We drove past the Qwest Center where Warren Buffett holds his annual stockholders meeting. Then we continued on up toward Canada. We stopped once in the middle of nowhere South Dakota so I could take a leak on the entrance ramp. During this process, I looked over my shoulder and what I think is a Lamborghini comes out ...

Rant about a very unpleasant bus day

... be like this before I started, and I can't complain because I'm seeing so many wonderful things. I am, however, looking forward to slowing down and spending time with close friends in the near future. When I get back to Canada in a little over a week, I'll be stopping in Guelph, Toronto and Ottawa before I go home. The next week should be interesting though - I am excited to discover these last few American cities on my list. But for now, bedtime!

day 26 (94 miles)

... expense because our route always had us going either due south or due east, and it was coming from due southeast, so it was in our face at every turn. luckily, the wind wasn't as strong today as it had been (5-10 mph with gusts to 15 or so), so it would have been much worse. nonetheless, with so many miles, today was the longest day in the saddle and one of the lowest average speeds (12.5 mph as opposed to a more typical 16-17) and we got ...

Who knew Fargo could be so hip?

... continents and provided much laughter. The food and wine were put away and J & J asked if I would join them in the HoDo Lounge downstairs. I had received instruction from all my co-workers with a Fargo background that this was the place I must go. Evidently the see and be seen place in town. So we headed down, where I lasted all of a couple of minutes before being sent back upstairs to obtain my ID (that b-day was over a decade ago ...
