The ladies at the house also showed me their work on the looms that put my placemat loom creation from Japan to complete shame. I was blown away by how intricate their designs were. ... where I managed to get away after they'd eaten and make my way to the other side of the river. At first I was a little reluctant as the whole area seemed to be quite new and mostly bars, but I was not disappointed as I ascended and saw the most beautiful views of the village proper imaginable.

Then back down to a hike through the rice patties and up a mountain gave me one of the most pleasant surprises yet; throughout the hills ...

... of the most beautiful, authentic villages I’ve seen; people fishing in the river, driving cattle on the road, many dressed in traditional costume.

However, once the bus pulled in, I regretted NOTHING (except maybe being stung 100 yuan to enter the village, but even that didn't hurt) It reminds me a lot of Fenghuang here, but a couple of years behind in the tacky tourist stakes, and more mountainous.
