    ... got underway.

It may have been just the accumulation of the last few days but I had to stop several times during the day for a break - just could not concentrate for more than an hour at a time.

Finally pulled up at the Best Western Radford - nice shower and a night in with Pizza!

... t too dramatic on their own but the backdrops really set them off. Sunburst falls flowed below an old bridge and you can view the falls both above and below the bridge (with a little careful rock climbing). I set my alarm for 7:45 this morning but we had crossed another time zone and my iPad hadn't updated itself so I was nearly late. Luckily I was kind of awake at 8:15 when Nicole called in to see if I'd survived the downpour so I got up. At 8:30 we had to go to the office on our campsite and pay for our white water rafting trip then at 9am we jumped on a proper American school bus and headed up river. Our guide was called Dana and he ...

    Into Mayberry

Barbara was feeling much better this morning, so we went into Mount Airy. The locals call it Mayberry, just about as much as they call it Mount Airy. We found our way to Main Street, and the first place we went to was Floyd's City Barber Shop. (His name isn’t Floyd, it’s Russell. He changed the name of his shop in the 80’s from City Barber Shop—a nod to Mayberry, no doubt.) I got my ...
