Being the little girls we were we made a little funeral for the fish near the pond. Eventually the last goldfish died and my mom was very curious where all of our goldfish had gone. When we told her she was just furious, yet understanding and we all just laughed it out.
Lesson learned: Always keep your goldfish in your goldfish bowl and in a cool place! :-)
