    ... inside are made from corn, many types and colors. Some areas use other grains to provide an accent texture. Every year the exterior of the building is changed and that was still happening when we arrived. There were extra repairs and renovations being done this year in preparation for a special anniversary for the Corn Palace.

    After enjoying Mitchell, we drove on to Badlands National Park in South Dakota. It was an amazing park ...

    ... and hours together on the phone discussing details. Slowly, but surely...without the help of a travel agent...we managed to plan and book everything needed for a two week vacation.

    We have discovered that one key to planning an Alaskan vacation is to plan EARLY. By doing so we had so many more options and at lower prices than if we had waited until closer to our trip. Hopefully we have made good choices...we will see! ...

    ... was closed. We couldn't even get to the quarry. But outcroppings of that distinctive red quartzite used for Native American peace pipes were evident every where. I even had to dodge a good sized rock driving a tent stake at Blue Mounds State Park in the southwestern corner of MN. Cold enough tonight to make a few more blue mounds.
