... was closed. We couldn't even get to the quarry. But outcroppings of that distinctive red quartzite used for Native American peace pipes were evident every where. I even had to dodge a good sized rock driving a tent stake at Blue Mounds State Park in the southwestern corner of MN. Cold enough tonight to make a few more blue mounds.


We are finally in Minnesota!!!

... br> It was warm while we were here but not too hot. In fact, there were only serveral times when it was warm enough to go swimming in the pool at our campground. There was an incredible pool facility in town too but, we didn't have a chance to go swimming there. These small towns offer their residents an amazing number of services, like their pools, libraries, community centers etc...Minnesota ...

... Oakland. One town had a population of 41! Freemont is a college town and quite cute. Most have the railroad as the main industry and big grain elevators. We also crossed the Platt River which is extremely low right about now. The fields are very dry and they must be praying for a little rain. Many large farms and lots of plowed fields - not as many animals this time - although we did see two ...

... is a palette of greens and golds in every hue patterned by corn rows, wheat fields, and grasslands. The occasional lone tree stands tall in the middle of nowhere, and a small circle of trees protects isolated watering holes for wildlife. Bales and bales of rolled straw lie in what seems like unending fields. Small towns can be seen in a distance flagged with water ...

... fun!!

Some of the people on the tour actually bought some really random and
funny things from the SPAM museum. They had everything from SPAM in cans
of course, as well as other things with the SPAM logo on them like air
fresheners, sunglasses, tshirts and anything else they could think of i
guess. It was funny to see what they came up with in the gift shop.

After the SPAM museum we had a few more hours of driving until we reached Sioux Falls. ...
