    Au revoir America!

A travel blog entry by taylor.burke on Jun 16, 2015

Today the journey began! My mom and I drove to Kansas City in order for me to board my flight early tomorrow morning. It took a while to get going because I kept remembering last minute things, and even when we got to Kansas City we had to make several emergency supply stops because apparently I forgot to pack my brain (my mom was thrilled about this). However, all worked out and we ended up getting to ...

... we will be doing over the next 13 days.

Also, once I get home from this trip, I will have to finish out my Guatemala blog. It was a CRAZY 5 days that I had between my trips. ... Mal (one of the candidates for sisterhood living in our house, she's super cool) made her special salsa from her garden. Mmm it was sooo good!! We even got spice cake at the end! We finished the night with a super fun game of Telestrations (a mix of telephone and pictionary). That is one funny game. I think all we ended up in tears from laughing so hard. We said our goodbyes and did a quick reflection in the car, we were all so tired that we headed straight to ...

... The coolest thing for me was the vibe and encouragement from random spectators and fellow competitors. If you are visibly struggling, someone will motivate you. "C'mon girl...this is you!" "You're looking strong. You can do it!" “You got this.” (For some reason, the American accent provided another layer of motivation.) There were also high fives from kids and back pats from runners overtaking me (there were ample). At about the 800metre-to-finish ...
