    ... to Americans along the way, everyone has been asking 'why on earth are you going to Iowa? Do you like corn?' Well, in actual fact we do!! When we landed in Iowa it soon became clear what they were talking about. There is endless fields of corn. We landed at 9pm Friday night after a delayed flight (which Ryan's parents were coincidentally also on) and the sun is still up - I love long summer nights. It gets me thinking about Perth voting against day light savings. Comments like ...

    ... ball of string' we could make a side trip and see it.

    The first neat thing we encountered was a rest area on Route 80. They had commissioned an architect to celebrate Iowa’s literacy. Throughout the area they had representative kid’s blocks with letters (2 foot cubes of concrete) they had what appeared to be book spines formed into the plaster borders of the building. There was a plaque explaining the representation.
