Yes, I'm actually in Rome! It has been a loooooooooong day, but I'm holding up remarkably well. I actually checked in for my flights online last night (or I guess now it's the night before last), so when Pop picked me up at 7am, I actually had my boarding passes. With my one bag (no checked baggage!) I breezed through security and was at the gate 10 minutes after he dropped me off, feeling as if I were embarking on a surreal dream. Both flights were exactly what one would with in air travel: ...
Rome, Italy melissad... uvic as well. We talked about our travels so far and where we
were headed next. We got a group of us and headed down to a separate
section of the bar that had a beer pong table. Of course I was going
to play so I grabbed a pitcher of beer and found a girl to be on my
team so we could challenge the winners. My teammate was from
Washington DC and she has just started her travels in Europe. We

... liberated and uninhibited, and there are frescos featuring winged penises on walls around the city. Seriously. Winged penises. Go figure. After a while the city gets a bit repetitive, but I think that makes the ruins more authentic. You wouldn't expect every building of a functioning city to be completely unique, that's just ridiculous. A final word on the mummified remains of the people. I'm told (though not by a reliable source) that the ...

Rome, Lazio, Italy slash0402... running there shops I would say 1 for every 400 places. Most of the work in the shops are made in China and you can buy anywhere for 4 to 8 times less the price. Well except that Prada Bag. Terry did sign us up for a tour and that was a great little chance to understand the architecture better. We are going to Murano tomorrow to see the Glass millfioirie artists but we have already been warned it is basically like condo sales ...
Rome, Italy claysquared... were the warning sign - I want to say it was like entering a war zone, but it would not do justice to the real war zones. But you could see the smoke in the air, it smelled like gun powder and my friend Matt would stop us every few feet to keep us from stepping on the little sticks of dynamite that were being tossed every which way by the Italian kids. That and they popped so loudly that I jumped out of my skin every few minutes. These things are ...
Rome, Italy jc_haroon... went to a deli where Cam ordered sandwiches filled with prosciutto & pecorino. The older man at the counter laughed when Cam asked for "sandwiches". We had a leisurely lunch eating our sandwiches along the Tiber River, before we headed out to the Pantheon. Along the way, we stopped into Gelateria Duomo for a fruity gelato of melone/melone verde and fragoli /ananas. We were both amazed by the Pantheon after reading the ...
Rome, Italy michncam... we took a bus tour to familiarize ourselves with the rather large city. The bus tour lasted a couple hours and drove by all the major sights and provided commentary. Now that we had our bearings, we took a night walk detailed in our travel guide. After getting lost for an hour (for those of you that have navigated Rome´s streets, I am sure this is easy to understand) we found our way. The tour took us to two ...
Rome, Italy ang_and_steve... mostly of infants. Eventually you get to the Sistine Chapel. Was Michelangelo crazy? Did he do speed? I don't know how anyone could paint that whole room in such a detailed fashion and have enough time to do anything else in their entire life. It has been restored by a Japanese company that made a deal with the Vatican: no one can take pictures of the chapel and the comapny that paid for the restoration gets all proceeds from postcard and poster sales. I took a ****ing picture. I ...
