... across a huge white building called Vittoriano. Which is a very recent build, early 1900s. It was a very controversial monument built in honour of the first king of unified Italy, Victor Emmanuel. I will go back as you can catch an elevator, yes elevator, got to love modern architecture, to the top for a spectacular view of Rome.

This morning, after our less than exciting B&B breakfast, we headed out with a plan to see some of the sites and more of the food orientated neighbourhoods. First stop though was the train station to book our ticket for Ancona. Then it was on to the Colloseum. We walked there from the train station. When we got there we knew it would be tourist central so we had prepared ourselves for the onslaught. The queue for tickets into the Colloseum was over an hour long. ...
Up in time to record the 7am church bells. Really hope it works cos it will definitely make you feel like you are here with us :) Thankfully I saw the first bus arrive so we would not be faced with the daunting prospect of hauling our luggage down those notorious steps...woo hoo! Lots of tidying, packing, showering and urgent last minute wifi usage and we were bound for Roma! Sad to be leaving gorgeous Corniglia and the spectacular coastline of CT but very excited ...
