I'll close now as it's going to be an early night for me. I expect it will be a long, arduous day similar to the first day through the Pyrenees last year. Let's see if I can beat 11 hours this time.

actually it was probably some of the nicest hiking we have ever done - stayed in some lovely hotels and mountain refuges, ate amazing food each day, good wine each night!

... Steep hills. We were following these through the vineyards that line the hills when we spotted a campsite down by the lake shore. It was after 6pm and we had had enough of this brutal day of riding. This is a very popular campsite, we have already run into some fellow Aussies here (for the jazz festival), but there are heaps of tents up. All the way up to these high meadows sheer rock faces meet you at every corner. Enormous fir trees reach up to a hundred feet or more up from the valley floors all jockeying for the best light.
