50 minutes north of the Fresh Lobster Company Little Corn Island, Corn Islands, Nicaragua
After two tough days of travel, primarily in the rain, I was convinced that I would wake up on Thursday morning on a tropical island on a beautiful sunny day, and pass all the time laying on the beach. Unfortunately, when I woke up, it was pouring down rain :)
Little Corn Island, as it turns out, is absolutely beautiful. The beaches on the far side of the island, while not as deep or as long as some others we've seen, have fine white sand, palm trees, and very very few people. There ar...
... continued to get worse so it wasn't as enjoyable as the first time round.

On Wednesday I was meant to take the boat back from Little Corn to Big Corn for my flight back to Managua. However after a morning of heavy rain and strong winds we got news that a full on storm was heading towards the island and no boats were leaving. Based on that we decided to move from the beach shack we had been staying at all week and moved in to a more sturdy hotel, one of the ...

We decided to move to Los Delfines, the hotel attached to Dolphin’s Dive and got an ensuite room with A/C for $30 per night (so $10 each) and single tank dives for $24 – awesome. Highlights of the week.

1. The boat journey across is not for the feint hearted, it is bumpy and wet and confirmed to us how glad we were that we decided to fly and not to take the ferry across from Bluefields to Big Corn, which ...

There is only electricity at night and water is limited. It is simplicity at its finest. We spent nine days on Little Corn and became very lazy, as so many people do. We spend most of ours days lying on the beach or in hammocks and swimming in the water. We checked out the dive shops and found out that we get a ...

We rented snorkels and saw lots, but i chose not to dive. It´s pricey and i was dubious about the viz down below given the swell and scattered clouds.

By western standards, $10 for a bed (well, $40 for 2 doubles shared by 4 guys!), $8 for 2 big lobster tails and $1 for beer isn´t too bad, but that´s ...
Little Corn Island, Nicaragua brabzzz... at Dereck's and after spending a few days on the island, Dereck's proved to be worth the $50/night. About four huts nestle in lumpy green grass spaced enough apart that only the crashing waves can be heard, and with only eight people staying at any one time on the property, the beach was pretty much to ourselves. The waves were gentle, warm and clear. We borrowed snorkel gear from a couple we met on the beach and swam out ...
Little Corn Island, Corn Islands, Nicaragua heidir... swimming without a mask, taking off your weightbelt and scuba unit, and running out of air and using your "buddy's" alternate air source. The buoyancy control was a bit tough, but once you get things right you can rise in the water by breathing in, and sink by breathing out. Everything went really smoothly, and we were ready to get in the water for our first real open water dive on Friday morning. It took a few minutes to get used to, but I was comfortable after a few minutes. We ...
Little Corn Island, Nicaragua pmckenna... difficult for some reason. After coming out of the shop and seeing that i was still on the edge of the line she took matters into her own hands and 20 minutes later we were in Nicaragua. I was impressed. We headed to Granada and the Bearded Monkey for the night. We managed to score some airline tickets for the afternoon flight the next day. We had both wanted to take the more adventurous trip by bus/boat to bluefields and then ferry to Big corn but the ferry ...
Little Corn Island, Corn Islands, Nicaragua pjcrus... Big Corn. Sadly, we were out of cordobas and there are no banks on Little Corn. We had just enough to get on the lancha to return to Big Corn where there is a bank. We said good-bye to everyone with a heavy heart, but in my mind, I thought this isn't good-bye... Paulie, hope you're gonna keep your promise and look for a piece of land for us to build a house when we come back... (photos: http://picasaweb.google.com/erikandtalo r/LittleCornIslandNicaragua)
Little Corn Island, Nicaragua erikandtalor... to say to the guy, and generally comes across as quite rude, but in a socially inept way, rather than intentionally. There was also this crazy American woman who had brought a collection or rather ugly puppets on her travels, she would always bring them out in the evenings like a portable ugly punch and judy show. She must have sacrificed considerable space in her backpack to accomodate these hideous puppets, and i found it particlarly odd as did everyone ...
