Tips for Hanoi!

I stayed in the best hotel in Hanoi and want to tell everyone about it - the Sunshine Hotel. I got a great room with air con, satellite TV, clean sheets (a first for me in Vietnam) and clean private bath for a whopping $10. The staff were really nice, spoke English quite well, and were extremely accommodating. They let me store my excess baggage for days. It located at 42 Ma May Street, which is just of Hang Bac in the old quarter. Tel: 84 4 926 1559. You can email them at sunshinevietnam@hot...

I am dreaming of Hanoi

Hi Everyone

We spent most of yesterday lolling about in Hoi An. It was just too hot to do anything else and we were both feeling pretty drained, chilling out in the air con was just what was needed!

So we left Hoi An this morning and flew up to Hanoi. Was a very good flight (read: no turbulence) so I was happy. It was really easy to get into the Old Quarter of Hanoi from the airport so that was a bonus as well. We caught the airport minibus which dropped us off at Hoan Kiem Lake...

Hanoi

We planned 3 nights stay in Hanoi and decided to splash out on a nice hotel because it was Ruths Birthday while we were there. We booked on the internet a hotel in the old quarter called the Sunshine 1 hotel. It was a grand place, ok room but old and damp, definately not worth $35. We met an old hippy on the street who said his accommodation was $7 for the same facilities. This hotel is in Ma May Street and very busy with mopeds. If we were to sum up our experience in Hanoi it would be "Beee...

You gotta fight for your right (no.1)

Bangkok and Hanoi were a bit of a shock - noisy, dingy, smelly, busy. For someone who had only been to China before in an organized trip, some years ago, this was hard to take... But quite soon I managed to flee from the big city fighting areas where everyone seemed to be rather foe than friend to beautiful and peaceful Halong Bay. We made a three-day boat trip with some relaxing activities and loads of time to regain strength. After that I found someone to travel with to the mountains in th...

Greetings from Hanoi

Hello from Vietnam! All is well...arrived in from China in torrential rains and landed in terrible lightening! But safe and happy! It is very tropical and hot here, but the people are friendly the sights/museums fantastic and the best of all the BEER is great-and by the way, local beer is just under 20cents a glass! Its freshly delivered to the vendors every evening and drinking starts early for us! Its so fresh and unpreserved and has a NO hangover effect! Usually up early by 7am, the food ...

Monkey Island and Kyaking

... back to the other side of the island and catch the big barge. We caught a bus across the island (30 mins) and saw masses of people, cars and bikes waiting there also - were we ever going to get off this island?? Anyway we all went to the front and found some seats (the locals don't like sitting in the sun - but we didn't care, as long as we were at the front we thought we would get on) until the barge arrived in approx 45 mins. As the barge approached, OMG the ...
