Historical Traveler Reviews of Sunset Waters Beach Resort All Inclusive Curaçao
The #1 vacation spot!

Our family vacation was Oct. 4 - 11, 2003, on the beautiful island of Curacao. At Sunset Waters Beach Resort we encountered the friendliest staff, the best food, the absolute best diving & snorkeling, and the most beautiful beach and surroundings EVER! Jim & Gayna were so concerned about how EVERYTHING was for our family. We were asked daily if there was anything else that they could do for us. The bartenders, Max & Gilmar were great. The activities director, Choo-Choo, was always accommodating. Even to the point of having an impromptu game of limbo the night of the beach party. We also had several killer games of volleyball with Stephen & Choo-Choo. One was with alot of the local children of the island. We spoke 2 entirely different languages and couldn't communicate very well; but it was an experience of a lifetime!
The chefs always served the most delicious food. There was always something new to try. The waitstaff, Maira, Camille & Ruth were always smiling in spite of the many miles that they walked on our behalf.
Andrea & Fredy were a blessing, too, walking many a mile to and from the bar while we basked in the sun. And last but certainly not least, we can't forget Rudy, the best driver on the island. We always looked forward to spending time with Rudy. We have been looking for a while for a place that we could bring the family year after year. We have finally found such a place. I look forward to going back again & reuniting with all of my new friends. ;)

My family and I (4 adults and 2 kids) spent the week of October 4th at Sunset Waters and had a great time. This is the first "family" trip we had taken in several years and wanted great diving, food and something to keep the kids busy...we found it here! The reservations were a snap with Cory's help, we told her what we wanted and she made it happen.
The room was great with a comfortable king size bed and lots of room.
The diving was incredible; Wade, Kristen, Carlos and Michelle went out of their way to point out critters to photograph. I saw more Seahorses than I have ever seen before. They rig all your gear on the boat in the mornings, all you need to grab is your personal stuff. Jim (the manager) met us the first day and every day we saw him he asked if there was anything he could do for us. In the evenings see Gilmar and Max at the bar. They created some very festive drinks (ask for a frozen Rudy). The food was awesome and plentiful; Ruth, Maira and Camille took very good care of us and didn't seem to mind running back and forth to the bar!! My buddy Rudy will take you anywhere you need to go. He took my brother-in-law and I on a t-shirt shopping adventure all over the Island. We all figured out that we have found a fantastic resort that we will visit every year. There was something for everybody (the girls and kids loved the snorkeling). When you go, ask Rudy to save my seat at the bar....I'll see him there soon! Troy and family, Pensacola Florida
A true gem of a getaway

This resort (including the dive operation) has the most accommodating staff and management I have ever encountered. Truly exceptional. The warmth, hard work, and attentiveness of the people at Sunset Waters definitely outweigh any (minor) complaints you might have. The other reviews summarize the highlights very well - the view of the sea (especially at sunset), the snorkeling, the proximity to diving, etc. I have to say that when we arrived, my first impression was not 'wow!' The rooms are nothing fancy, the bath towels were limited, water pressure and temperature were a bit erratic, sheets were not changed during a week's stay. This is not the place to go if your room is of utmost importance. However, the way in which we were treated far, far outweighed any issues I might have had about the room (which was not a dump by any means - housekeeping cleaned it thoroughly each day, why the sheets didn't get changed, not sure). The fact that by day three everyone seemed to know you, the fact that Rudy will take you anywhere on the island you want to go (and this is not a small island!), the fact that each and every person greeted you with a smile, the fact that steps from your room you can have an amazing snorkel experience - these are the things that I will remember about our time at Sunset Waters.
Highly recommended if you want to get away from it all!

WOW What a awesome vacation at a really great resort. we had a wonderful time with our new friends Jim, Rudy,Choo Choo,Max, Guilmere,Freddy,Andrea,Maria,Ruth and all of the waiters and waitresses were great the food was top notch and the resort grounds are wonderful and the kids loved it and had a blast. The diving was second to none the reef is in really great condition and Carlos is the man to find you some seahorses and all kinds of great reef life. Kristin and Wade are wonderful people and great instructors and dive masters they will help you enjoy your diving experience and be sure to do the night dive it was my favorite I really appreciated all the attention and they made the vacation that very relaxing, they handled all the gear we just dove. Bring your underwater camera or rent one there they will have you taking great pictures your first day.I will definately be going back to Sunset Waters Beach Resort. Captain Johnny
A Hidden Treasure

Jan.23-Feb6, 2003. Sunset Waters was way beyond our expectations. Its in a secluded part of the island, ½ hr from town. Shuttle runs several times per week to town, or you can hire Rudy to take you where you want to go. Car rentals available in town. We had the all inclusive package and never felt the need to go anywhere else. Resort has kayaks, miniature golf, tennis courts, volleyball, hiking trails, and a beautiful beach. Sunset watching was our favorite evening activity from the bar. Choo Choo will try to meet any requests for activities. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. Service was excellent in all areas. Food was excellent and plenty of it. Lots of salads and fruits, dinners are 4 course meals. We were in room 117, which is large and has a balcony overlooking the water, and also the nude beach. The resort is clean and in good condition. Rooms have ceiling fans and a/c, phone, cable TV. The manager, Jim Hunter, is the best that we have ever met in 25 years of traveling. Jim makes himself available to all the guests and does his best to meet any requests. Sunset Waters is a hidden treasure. We will be going back. Dive Operation: We each have 700&1,000 dives respectively. The water temp @78, vis 70-100+. We were the only two divers for the first few days, so they had the boat at Habitat pick us up for diving, since they run that operation also. Habitat boats were nice, roomy, shaded area, small camera table and rinse bucket. Excellent dive staff. The second half of the trip we dove with the Easy Diver boat. Not as big as Habitats, but we only had about 6-8 divers on the boat and there was plenty of space for more. Covered area, camera rinse bucket, but no table. Harry drove the boat and was the only crewmember. He stayed with the boat and watched our bubbles. Many times he would bring the boat to us as we surfaced. No dive restrictions. We did drift dives sometimes, but never had any current. We did one dive for 1 hr 20 min and no problem. Harry was very accommodating. Took us to the dive sites we wanted to go to. We alternated between the boat diving and shore diving. Shore reef is great. Good fish life and lots of coral. Did 12 dives on it and never got tired of it. Overall, the diving was great. Tons of small reef fish, good variety. Saw rays several times, 3 Frogfish on one dive! No large fish seen or pelagics, although Dolphins, sharks, etc. have been seen by others. Coral is in good shape, lots of hard and soft corals. Not as colorful as Bonaire, and not as many large fish, but has the abundance and variety.Note: We have learned since our trip that the dive shop is under new management. They are working on getting in new dive boats, and plan to run a first class dive operation.

Quiet, Friendly, Relaxing

We wanted an all inclusive resort (meals, drinks, etc.) that was quiet and relaxing. We found it at the Sunset Waters Beach Resort! No fancy clothes...just a few different bathing suits and cover ups! Extremely friendly and accommodating staff. Jim (manager), Johnny, Gilmar and Pierrette (bartenders), Eppy (restaurant manager), Rudy (driver and general know-it-all) and Chu-Chu (as in train-activities director) - they were all wonderful! It was very-very quiet - we arrived the day the war started in Iraq. Satelite TV kept us as informed as necessary. Transfers provided by Taber Tours - 40 minutes from Hato Airport to the resort - after dark! Upon arrival they placed a band on our wrists and we were off - they were holding dinner for us! We HIGHLY recommend the Junior Suite rooms. Right off the pool - nice balcony and of course a wonderful view of the sea and the "Sunset".Food was great - sometimes you ordered off a menu, sometimes we had a buffet. Both were great. Fish, chicken, beef - prepared sometimes "American" and sometimes "Caribbean". Coffee is a little strong tho! Several local bands played - trio of school teachers the night of the beach BBQ, The Happy Eppy Band on night for dinner, steel drum band for lunch...just wonderful. Typical Day:Get up - watch the newsGo to BreakfastBeach time- snorkel, float on loungers, play beach golf...with Chu-ChuLunch with Eppy and gangLittle more beachnappool bar with Johnny or Gilmarget ready for dinnerdrinks at the restaurant bar with Pierrettedinnerentertainment - live music (trio) or karaoke...bedOne day we did travel to Williamstat with Rudy - left at 10a - came back at 2p. Enough time to pick up some gifts - cross the floating bridge - and take a few pictures. So - if you're looking for a peaceful, quiet and relaxing vacation...visit the Sunset Waters Beach Resort!
Roach Motel person off track !

When we saw the January 3 review written by Anonymous about beautiful Sunset Waters Resort being a "Roach/Road Motel", we had to write! Anonymous could not have been more wrong. We just returned from 12 days at Sunset Waters. We have been to several Caribbean islands including twice to Curacao, and Sunset Waters ranks at the top of our list for cleanliness, a beautiful beach, great food and drinks and a top-notch friendly staff. We are vegetarians, and the cooks and resort manager personally went out of their way to take care of us. The dive operation is the absolute best we've encountered, very laid back and friendly - in all, a wonderful, pampered vacation! Can't wait to go back!!
What a horrible customer!!

I was at Sunset Waters when the anonyomous "Sunset Waters Road Motel" reviewer stayed there.
This person could not have been more wrong, the resort is accommodating, tranquil, and wonderful. I would rate the place as one of the best private resorts I have ever been to. The staff is friendly and incredibly attentive. For me as well as everyone else there, they consistently went overboard to accommodate any needs, or desires.
The Beach is fantastic, the rooms are enormous and clean with more than adequate and spacious bathrooms. The room I stayed in, an oceanfront room, had a brand new, enormous and oppulent bathroom.
Ignore the "sour grapes" anonomous reviewer, she was so difficult and unsatisfiable, that several guests including myself requested that the hotel remove her from the hotel, and because the staff and management are so accommodating, the General Manager (a great guy) Mr. Jim Hunter, invited her to leave, which thankfully she did.
Don't take my word for it, search the travel sites and see the other reviews of this place. In the meantime, I am making my reservation to go back!!!

This is a 1 star road motel. It is 40 minutes from town and the hotel provides a shuttle(?) service ONCE aday. No room service, terrible bathrooms. When I stayed there was no running water for two days!! Steer away fro this place, unless you are paying bottom rates and don't mind quality!!
