Sunset Sands Apartments Speightstown

Barbados was great (we stayed in Holetown) – fabulous weather, a fully equipped apartment near the shops, bars and restaurants, in a great location with beach frontage.

We ate well, slept a lot, lay on the white sand beach, swam and snorkelled and went to the Cropover festival. We watched the amazing procession of floats, equipped with massive speakers, churning out reggae, as young (and not so ...

So, after 5 days worth of failed attempts trying to fly standby, I came to the realisation that this is probably going to be impossible for the next month at least. There were 40 other people waiting with me in standby, many of them AA staff, many of them with families and many of them completely stranded for one reason or the other - a few were stuck behind too many people in line and checkin ...

This is my third day trying to get out of the island on standby. I was 38/47 on the list earlier. So many families of staff members using their tickets for holiday.. It's insanity. It seems to be impossible to get out of the Caribbean right now! Hopefully I'll figure out something soon, otherwise I may have to cancel parts of my itinerary.. :(

... and Asta Reef -- a sunken ship and a coral reef. We tooled around the bottom, viewing spectacular corals, sponges, and sea fans, and spotting two turtles, two eels, and many fish.

After a surface interval and trip back to shore, we headed out on an even shorter boat ride to the other side of the bay to view the Carlisle Bay Marine Park, a collection of 5 sunken ships all covered with sea life and fairly open for exploring. This time ...

... The island is so beautiful with all of its tropical exotic trees and colours. One could stay here forever.

We were then driven through Holetown, where the island's first settlers landed in 1627. Upon our return, we passed in front of numerous luxury hotels and houses.

The island is purely marvelous. Our short stay here provided us with lots of memories that we will cherish forever.

"Welcome to Barbados!" as the sign said, "Island where rich tropical fields meet a glistering azure sea". Quite true! As the ship made its way through the channel, the view of the island was spectacular!!.

Barbados is 270 miles from the coast of Venezuela. The island is really small in size being 14 by 21 miles. The population however, is 279,000 and the capital is Bridgeport.

... just the dorm kids to come out and support the auction, but it's a huge event: it was held at the JCR (the outdoor common room in the dorms) and there were at least a hundred or hundred fifty people crowded around the makeshift stage. there was music blaring and one of the louder girls in the dorms, crystal, was responsible for being the mc for the event. each guy has to go out there individually in front of all those people while crystal hypes you up and tries to sell ...
