Tyndall Air Force Base visit
... and my travelling partner and his family (brother and father) have flown in all the airplanes. It was pretty exciting to see, and also to hear all the fighters fly overhead. Today I saw flying in the pattern, an F-4 Phantom, Several F-15 Eagles, F-22 Raptors and F-16 Fighting Falcons. They make a nice rumbly noise that I hear all the way down into my tummy!
Go Air Force!

Day Eight - The Florida Panhandle
... interesting, older beach villages and then suburban shopping areas. After a three mile bridge, I was in Pensacola. I stopped at the Visitor Centre and they recommended a funky hotel within walking distance of the historic area. I watched some pelicans diving for their lunch, rode to the hotel to check in and then walked around the historic city. ...
Day before going home.. :(
... watching something on TV... then went to the gym to sweat out some of the previous day's alcohol. When i got back, my scalp got a little too much sun... so I stayed in and got some work done on my laptop.... it was a much needed catch up... and I was more than happy not to be in the sun as my head is tender!
Later that night, we went to Angelos Steak House (a landmark in PCB) for some steak... it was SO good... I ...
I got sunshine......
... and headed back to the condo to pre-game for going out. David had never been out to Splash Bar (one of two very tragic gay bars down in PCB... but the lesser of two evils)... so we made a pact to take him... its a right of passage... everyone has to go at least once. Every time we have gone, we have always walked away with fun stories... and this night was no different! They had two go go boys (per usual) dancing on the bar... and both were actually cute this time.. ...
Take me down to Panama City...

We got there just in time as a storm hit just as we were walking in. By the time we were finished, we were borderline food coma.... so we just went back and passed the hell out... its hard work being driven around all day. :)

Great Time At Sunset Inn
We just returned home from a visit at the Sunset Inn and as always it was wonderful. We have stayed at this motel on numerous occasions and have always found it to be clean, a very nice swimming pool and everyone is always so helpful. Penny has always went out of her way to help us get a room and she is so friendly and always remembers you.
Also, this motel is a family motel and very quiet and peaceful and also ideal for young children. We have carried our grandchildren here several times.
Best in PC Beach
4th July weekend was our first stay at the Sunset. It won't be the last! We are going back Labor Day! Wonderful place, clean, friendly mgmt, maids are funny and delightful.... excellent maid service. We've stayed all over Panama City Beach and the Sunset Inn is by far the best place. We made reservations for 8 days but stayed over 3 extra days and Penny managed to get us the rooms for the extra nights even though it was a busy week and they were booked up!!! Can't say enough great things, we just love the place. Great food across the street at the Quarterdeck so you never have to drive anywhere! Chair rental at the Sunset beach is great the guy is friendly and keeps the beach the cleanest around. If your thinking of PC Beach give the Sunset a try you won't be disappointed.
Love the Sunset
The Sunset Inn is a quaint family owned motel- I have been been staying with them for over 15 years! Thanks to Penny & Gus, and their extended family- they make everyone's stay a great experience. I recommend this motel to anyone looking for a wonderful vacation, and it is close to all major attractions. Also, Thanks to Anthony- our beach attendant for many years of dedication! He will have your chair and umbrella waiting on you. Penny & Gus are from Greece, but also reside in PC,Birmingham AL & Chicago. Penny's husband Alex has BBQ restaurant in Birmingham- Gus has family in Chicago. Get them all together at the Sunset and you are in for a lively conversation!
Great Hotel/Condo
We stayed at Sunset during Spring Break for just a couple of nights and were so impressed with how friendly the staff and owners were to us we came back to stay longer just three weeks later! I am 23 years old and you don't find many hotels that treat you with respect for your age. Sunset Inn treated me like an adult with no harassment. I will be returning this summer to stay again. Thanks for a great stay Sunset Inn!!!
Good value at sunset inn
We were at the Sunset Inn last week. Extemely reasonable, convenient and the staff was very accomodating and did an outstanding job of keeping the room clean. We will surely return next year but will get a room in the main building. Pretty noisey in the back annex across the road but then again it was spring break. Great faciility and a good value
Home away from home right on the ocean
We have stayed with Penny and Gus every year for 10 years. A couple of times we have strayed but always left the other hotel and returned to the sunset inn. For a well run, family oriented, quaint inn right on the beach, there is no better place to stay. What a find!!!!! The rooms are like your own home and the staff just like your own family. They remember you from year to year and are always pleasant and helpful. For families traveling with children or couples wanting time alone, the sunset offers the quiet off the beaten path yet right on the ocean you crave. I won't stay anywhere else.
Great time at Sunset Inn
We went to Panama City Beach last March and had such a nice stay at this hotel. The rates were extremely reasonable and the rooms were clean and included a small kitchen area. The owners are very nice and curteous and are willing to help whenever they can. There is a pool on site or the hotel is on the beach. The section of the beach that is on is very clean and quiet. Great for couples and families. Highly recommend!
Nice price-Good Location
For those of you who want a clean, comfortable room just steps from the ocean and 1/4 mile from great entertainment...The Sunset Inn was a "great find" in a sea of overpriced super hotels. It's not super fancy but it's has a nice pool for those of you who don't want to jump into the ocean. Good for a family or older couples to relax without all of the loud noises and teenagers. I think you'll enjoy staying there...
My October 2002 visit
Oct. 15, 2002
We just returned from a 5 day visit to Panama City, Fl where we stayed at the Sunset Inn. It was a pleasant week. The rates were excellent, ($80 per night + tax) considering we had a beachfront room with 1 bedroom, and a queen bed and sofa sleeper in large living room, table/chairs, two TV's w/cable. It also included a spacious bath and kitchette w/full size refrigerator. If you plan to do any 'real cooking' - take your own pots/pans - the ones in the cabinet weren't very good. Don't forget dish soap and paper towels. None are provided.
The staff are very friendly and accomodating. The beds were comfortable and the furnishings were in good condition. There were no 'odd smells' or stains in the room. I think they must have recently installed new carpeting. The pool area is well kept and the pool was nice. We were there in slow season, but there were plenty of lounges and tables/chairs. Nice beach lounges w/unbrellas were for rent for $10/day (low season)
The only problem we experienced were with the door keys. They probably need to put new locks on some of the doors. It required some effort to open the door - we had to wiggle the key and almost force it to work.
We had some rather 'loud' neighbors - about a dozen retirees who would get up very early and eat on the patio right in front of our room EVERY MORNING. I think 6:30 a.m. is a little early to be as loud as these folks were - and it happened each morning we were there. Some people are very inconsiderate.
We would have liked to have been able to open the window early in the morning and enjoy the cool air and ocean sounds, but instead, had to listen too a bunch of people loudly talking. We probably should have reported it to the management.
But, all in all, we had a nice stay and enjoyed the beach immensely. The weather cooperated also. My friend has stayed at the Sunset Inn at least six times and plans to return. This is my first vacation where I stayed in one place for an entire week. If I ever go back to Panama City, I would probably stay at Sunset Inn again also.
Sincerely, An Illinois visitor
