      A Very Pleasant Surprise

We arrived in Senggigi via boat from Denpasar, quite unprepared for what to expect, as we had not had the time or energy to do the usual research on the new destination in our travels. As such, we found ourselves hiring a taxi to help us locate a place. After checking out three different hotels, we settled on Sunset House. Excellent choice.

Beautiful garden and beach front settings - your choice, to accommodate your budget. We chose a room with a garden rather than a sea view, as it suited our budget. The room is huge, beautifully decorated in very modern decor, meticulously clean, and has a large balcony overlooking a beautiful garden, hillside view, and jungle scape, which you can take in as well from the wall to wall French doors that open on to the balcony.

The room price includes an excellent full buffet breakfast, which makes it an even better deal. The restaurant is open until 11 pm, and serves a variety of dishes. The hotel grounds on the seaview side are also beautiful, with a stellar pool overlooking the ocean, comfortable poolside furniture, and a number of large gazebos for lounging.

The hotel staff were very friendly, and the service excellent. We expect to be back in Senggigi in a couple of weeks, and will definitely be staying here again.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 36 in the garden and liked it a lot, but the seaview rooms are also very nice, if your budget allows it, as they are considerably more expensive, but still reasonable for what you are getting.

The location was nice, a little over an hour from the airport but within walking distance to the shops and lots of restaurants. The staff was incredibly helpful and the view was great. be prepared for everyone coming onto the grounds to try and sell their products and services though. It would have been nicer if they had restricted their access to approach us while having breakfast...

      Peaceful, Clean, and Friendly Staff

We stayed here for one night during the low season and had a very relaxing time. The room was clean and the fascilities are the nicest we have stayed in for several weeks despite the affordable price. We paid a little over $30 US which is a good deal if you are traveling as a couple. The bed and linens are very nice compared to equivalent accomodations we have experienced in Bali, Gili Air, and Lombok.

The Sunset House shares the beach with only a few other accomodations and we had it mostly to ourselves. The sun sets over the water so it truly is great for sunsests. When the sky is clear you can see the volcano on Bali.

The staff is very friendly and they have great internet access.

... in the turtle sanctuary on the main beach but I wanted to see a wild one!

After half an hour of looking I got a sighting. The turtle was bigger than I was expecting – its shell about the size of large pizza – and it was out on the reef where the shallow waters suddenly drop into deep ocean. It was gorgeous! Serenely swimming along without a care ...

      Climbing Mt Rinjani

We avoided plenty of taxi drivers all competing for our custom and hopped on the shuttle bus to Sengiggi. We changed buses along the way and an hour and a half later we arrived in the centre and checked into a room. It wasn't as hot as Dubai but definitely felt more humid. After some fresh fish for lunch we had a wander round and generally just chilled. As we'd arrived late we decided to spend one more day before tackling Mount Rinjani. The following day we were glad of a day ...

... as a reward for when the time was right and right now couldn’t have been better. Another 10 or so wet wipes later and with my dry clothes on I started to feel a bit better. It is amazing how fast my body can recover after such a strenuous day of trekking. (So thanks Trevor for giving me a base and good muscle memory to make this climb possible despite the pain, and for being trained to the point that my body knows how to quickly bounce back).

... where we were going. It was a pleasant short walk and we were directed to the bar. The Hotel Tugu looks quite pretty but this bar was creepy. There were fabric light shade things with skull and crossbones on and tea towel bits hanging down the sides, terracotta heads lined up along a shelf and the meanest looking Shiva looking down over the bar. Despite the weirdness, we had a couple of nice drinks and lots of laughs. Ken and Linda went to have ...
