          A Very Pleasant Surprise

We arrived in Senggigi via boat from Denpasar, quite unprepared for what to expect, as we had not had the time or energy to do the usual research on the new destination in our travels. As such, we found ourselves hiring a taxi to help us locate a place. After checking out three different hotels, we settled on Sunset House. Excellent choice.

Beautiful garden and beach front settings - your choice, to accommodate your budget. We chose a room with a garden rather than a sea view, as it suited our budget. The room is huge, beautifully decorated in very modern decor, meticulously clean, and has a large balcony overlooking a beautiful garden, hillside view, and jungle scape, which you can take in as well from the wall to wall French doors that open on to the balcony.

The room price includes an excellent full buffet breakfast, which makes it an even better deal. The restaurant is open until 11 pm, and serves a variety of dishes. The hotel grounds on the seaview side are also beautiful, with a stellar pool overlooking the ocean, comfortable poolside furniture, and a number of large gazebos for lounging.

The hotel staff were very friendly, and the service excellent. We expect to be back in Senggigi in a couple of weeks, and will definitely be staying here again.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 36 in the garden and liked it a lot, but the seaview rooms are also very nice, if your budget allows it, as they are considerably more expensive, but still reasonable for what you are getting.

The location was nice, a little over an hour from the airport but within walking distance to the shops and lots of restaurants. The staff was incredibly helpful and the view was great. be prepared for everyone coming onto the grounds to try and sell their products and services though. It would have been nicer if they had restricted their access to approach us while having breakfast...

          Peaceful, Clean, and Friendly Staff

We stayed here for one night during the low season and had a very relaxing time. The room was clean and the fascilities are the nicest we have stayed in for several weeks despite the affordable price. We paid a little over $30 US which is a good deal if you are traveling as a couple. The bed and linens are very nice compared to equivalent accomodations we have experienced in Bali, Gili Air, and Lombok.

The Sunset House shares the beach with only a few other accomodations and we had it mostly to ourselves. The sun sets over the water so it truly is great for sunsests. When the sky is clear you can see the volcano on Bali.

The staff is very friendly and they have great internet access.

... Especially since we could see the climb we were about to embark on. POS III was also scattered with litter and cheeky macaques who were keen to grab the litter in hope of some food. Such a shame the amount of litter, but local organisations and responsible companies are trying to do something about it. As Leah informed us, there are regular meetings with the guides and porters to explain and educate them about litter and to try to help them to understand that it is their land ...

It wasn’t an early start, but it wasn’t a late one either; we did decide to lie in bed and savour the last few days we were going to be able to do that. We eventually got up and Edd went to find out about a hair cut and a moped - he wanted to go to the beach, but the ones close to us we were warned to stay away from, so transport was needed to get to the ones more further out.

(Apparently the beaches close by are beautiful, but ...

Our initial plan was to stay 2 nights on each Gili Island, but with the 3 being so similar decided we would spend the next 2 nights on Gili Air and then move onto Lombok. A 10 minute boat ride brought us onto the even smaller island. We noticed from the boat how clear the water was, a snorkelling trip was definitely in order, especially when there was a possibility to see turtles. We booked onto a 5 hour snorkelling trip for the following ...

The turtle would feed away at the bottom before swimming to the surface to breathe and then head back down - we must've been there a while as it did this twice. Deciding to move on we couldn't get rid of the turtles as we came across four or five in total, one of them swimming side by side with us for a while and if we'd ...

... Gem revealed that she'd also had a series of priorities in the event of a seaborne emergency and one included crafting Bardy a sun hat out of her vest top. As it turns out, this would have been incompatible with another one of my plans which was to attach her vest top to piece of plastic piping in the boat to wave and attract attention (it was our brightest item of clothing). It's lucky the boat stayed afloat because we could have had a serious argument about the best survival ...
