    A Very Pleasant Surprise

We arrived in Senggigi via boat from Denpasar, quite unprepared for what to expect, as we had not had the time or energy to do the usual research on the new destination in our travels. As such, we found ourselves hiring a taxi to help us locate a place. After checking out three different hotels, we settled on Sunset House. Excellent choice.

Beautiful garden and beach front settings - your choice, to accommodate your budget. We chose a room with a garden rather than a sea view, as it suited our budget. The room is huge, beautifully decorated in very modern decor, meticulously clean, and has a large balcony overlooking a beautiful garden, hillside view, and jungle scape, which you can take in as well from the wall to wall French doors that open on to the balcony.

The room price includes an excellent full buffet breakfast, which makes it an even better deal. The restaurant is open until 11 pm, and serves a variety of dishes. The hotel grounds on the seaview side are also beautiful, with a stellar pool overlooking the ocean, comfortable poolside furniture, and a number of large gazebos for lounging.

The hotel staff were very friendly, and the service excellent. We expect to be back in Senggigi in a couple of weeks, and will definitely be staying here again.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 36 in the garden and liked it a lot, but the seaview rooms are also very nice, if your budget allows it, as they are considerably more expensive, but still reasonable for what you are getting.

The location was nice, a little over an hour from the airport but within walking distance to the shops and lots of restaurants. The staff was incredibly helpful and the view was great. be prepared for everyone coming onto the grounds to try and sell their products and services though. It would have been nicer if they had restricted their access to approach us while having breakfast...

    Peaceful, Clean, and Friendly Staff

We stayed here for one night during the low season and had a very relaxing time. The room was clean and the fascilities are the nicest we have stayed in for several weeks despite the affordable price. We paid a little over $30 US which is a good deal if you are traveling as a couple. The bed and linens are very nice compared to equivalent accomodations we have experienced in Bali, Gili Air, and Lombok.

The Sunset House shares the beach with only a few other accomodations and we had it mostly to ourselves. The sun sets over the water so it truly is great for sunsests. When the sky is clear you can see the volcano on Bali.

The staff is very friendly and they have great internet access.

Senggigi - Lombok's Only Bona Fide Resort Area

Thirty six hours after arriving in Bali, Indonesia, we are on a boat taking us to the northwest coast of Lombok, arriving at the resort area of Senggigi, which we are told is the only developed resort area on the island of Lombok. Unlike its neighbour island Bali, Lombok is just beginning to develop its tourism industry. In fact, Lombok is often …

... to have something sturdy to plant my feet on but with the steepness of the final accent I was still more time than not using my arms to pull me up the high boulders. My lungs were on fire and at this point my legs burnt out. If it wasn’t for my reward of turning on my iPod, the views and the promise we were almost there I might have sat down for a very long time. Good beats helped me press on and man was it worth it. We got to the top of the rim and even ...

... I believe! The camp setting is stunning, on the other side of the mountain with an even better view of the sunset. The colours are an intense pink and orange. We chat, have dinner and go to bed early, although I don't know how anyone can actually sleep in those conditions.
Day 3: Surprisingly, I am still standing. The cramps in my legs are killing me but today we are mostly hiking downhill and a good part of the day in ...

... us. We were beginning to believe David’s friend - Gili Air seemed as close to paradise as you can get!

After the sun had set, we headed off to find somewhere for dinner. Walking along the road there is a seemingly endless row of restaurants, all with beachfront tables. Outside a number of them were displays of fresh meat and seafood including some truly giant tiger prawns and the tantalising smell of charcoal BBQs cooking, along with the ...

Getting into bed, with a very full stomach and a big smile on my face, it was just another perfect chapter to the story that's being written.

So unfortunately owing to some disorganisation on my part, I found myself having to get up early and rush back down to Sengiggi to ensure that I wasn't evicted from my Hotel. So leaving at 6:30am, I left my cabin only to the see the valley in all its splendour before the clouds set in, the ...
