      A Very Pleasant Surprise

We arrived in Senggigi via boat from Denpasar, quite unprepared for what to expect, as we had not had the time or energy to do the usual research on the new destination in our travels. As such, we found ourselves hiring a taxi to help us locate a place. After checking out three different hotels, we settled on Sunset House. Excellent choice.

Beautiful garden and beach front settings - your choice, to accommodate your budget. We chose a room with a garden rather than a sea view, as it suited our budget. The room is huge, beautifully decorated in very modern decor, meticulously clean, and has a large balcony overlooking a beautiful garden, hillside view, and jungle scape, which you can take in as well from the wall to wall French doors that open on to the balcony.

The room price includes an excellent full buffet breakfast, which makes it an even better deal. The restaurant is open until 11 pm, and serves a variety of dishes. The hotel grounds on the seaview side are also beautiful, with a stellar pool overlooking the ocean, comfortable poolside furniture, and a number of large gazebos for lounging.

The hotel staff were very friendly, and the service excellent. We expect to be back in Senggigi in a couple of weeks, and will definitely be staying here again.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 36 in the garden and liked it a lot, but the seaview rooms are also very nice, if your budget allows it, as they are considerably more expensive, but still reasonable for what you are getting.

The location was nice, a little over an hour from the airport but within walking distance to the shops and lots of restaurants. The staff was incredibly helpful and the view was great. be prepared for everyone coming onto the grounds to try and sell their products and services though. It would have been nicer if they had restricted their access to approach us while having breakfast...

      Peaceful, Clean, and Friendly Staff

We stayed here for one night during the low season and had a very relaxing time. The room was clean and the fascilities are the nicest we have stayed in for several weeks despite the affordable price. We paid a little over $30 US which is a good deal if you are traveling as a couple. The bed and linens are very nice compared to equivalent accomodations we have experienced in Bali, Gili Air, and Lombok.

The Sunset House shares the beach with only a few other accomodations and we had it mostly to ourselves. The sun sets over the water so it truly is great for sunsests. When the sky is clear you can see the volcano on Bali.

The staff is very friendly and they have great internet access.

Senggigi - Lombok's Only Bona Fide Resort Area

Thirty six hours after arriving in Bali, Indonesia, we are on a boat taking us to the northwest coast of Lombok, arriving at the resort area of Senggigi, which we are told is the only developed resort area on the island of Lombok. Unlike its neighbour island Bali, Lombok is just beginning to develop its tourism industry. In fact, Lombok is often …

We hired a car and driver for a day (£30 for the five of us including a lesser-spotted baby seat) and it was fascinating to drive through nearby local Sasak villages. Crops of tobacco and watermelon were the most common as we drove along the extremely hilly ...

Maybe six holds later I placed my foot in a groove thinking it would hold me as I reached for the next grip and before I knew it my foot slipped in the gravel that was hiding in the groove and I was falling backwards with the rocks just out of my grasp. I closed my eyes in that split second that felt like the longest slow motion moment thinking at least I have a backpack ...

... As we approached Kuta, you pass through some very traditional Lombok villages with the huts made from bamboo and thatched roof. The traditional people of Lombok are called the Sasak. We visited Tony and Emmy who are friends of Dave and Kel. They run a small guest house up on the hills about 8 km west of Lombok. Here they have picturesque views of the surrounding hills and valleys ...
