Egypt - Day 3: Hurghada, Red Sea & Beach

... allowed to get in without covering your head. Then we shop around in New Marina. There are more shops and better restaurants or bars than the old town. On returning to the hotel, we tried our first time taking the micro-bus. We asked a local people about how it works. It costs only 1 Egyptian pound for anywhere you go. Get on the bus and paid 1 Egyptian pound and then called to stop when you have arrived your hotel. Enjoy Hurgahda!

Egypt - Day 2: Hurghada, Old Town Shopping

... I like to cook and so we went in an Egyptian spice shop. The shop keeper is so enthusiastic in explaining every spice in his shop. He also told us the recent politics issue they had in their country and the reason why they don’t like America. They wanted to control their own country by themselves. The tourism industry is getting worse by the news. It is safe to travel ...

... shop. The shop owner told us life would be difficult for them to make a living at this period. But they supported the revolution, they believed the country would get better and so the life of their next generations would be better after this change. Sometimes it’s quite annoying by their “Hospitably” but I always like to hear about the real life of each country I traveled with by talking with the local people. ...

Desert Jeep Safari, Bedouins & a Birthday Party!

... women are bound by honour and tradition to stay within the family dwelling and therefore lack opportunity for advancement. The Bedouin men wear a long cloak type of garment and a draped head covering. the women usually wear brightly coloured long dresses but when they go outside they wear a long thin black coat sometimes covered with shiny embroidery. They will always cover their head and hair when they leave their house with ...

Desert Camp to Safaga

... us and spirits back to 100%. The terrain so far has been fairly flat and we have had a tailwind most of the way (en shallah) which has made the going pleasant so far and a perfect way to find my fitness. Mountain and desert on the one side and the Red sea on the other. It has also been cold, similar to a JHB winter, cold in the morning and warms up a little during the day and cold in the evening. Happy Birthday ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Sunrise Royal Makadi Resort Makadi Bay

    Makadi or Make-Do

I was hoping this resort was going to re-affirm my faith in All-inclusive holidays, having had a poor experience in Malta earlier this year. I am very pleased to say that it knock my socks off. Everything was just as you;d like it to be. The staff we fantastic, the rooms perfect, the facilities just as you'd imagine. Watch out for booking the restaurants as our Russian friends aren't as adept at queueing as us Brits but that was the only down point. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone.

Clean and modern touristy type of hotel

I have just returned from Egypt. I took my mum to Cairo and Hurghada to treat her on her 60th Birthday. My mum loved the hotel but I have stayed in better 5 stars hotels before. I travel 3-4 times a year and when I do, I always make sure that I choose a real luxurious hotel with excellent customer service. This time I have selected a hotel that is modern, clean ,very touristy and lacking of customer service. After arriving late at the hotel no-one was especially willing to help us carry our luggage and we were not welcomed by drinks at all. Although I requested a double bedded room with sea view I got two single beds and garden view. I straightaway called the receptionist and politely explained my reservations about the situations. The receptionist was very unhelpful and not respectful at all. He clearly did not want to change the situation and said "tomorrow" very abruptly. The room was a basically furnished modern room. The bathroom was very large but the showerhead could not be fixed during our stay even though I reported the fault several times. We could hear the water running in the toilet all night.

    Best Hotel in Makadi Bay

Just returned from two fantastic weeks at the Sunrise Royal Makadi which we booked through Thomas Cook.

    Oasis in the Desert

We booked are week in Royal Sunrise on the internet a week before going as a last minute deal just looking for a week of R&R and lots of sun - and that is certainly what we got!

    Tummy trouble

Would just like to mention that although this Hotel is beautiful, clean and luxurious, all four members of my family had very bad tummy upsets...two of us for the whole week. We were therefore not able to take advantage of the all inclusive food and drink to its full advantage as we didn't feel well enough. If it hadn't been for this it would have been a fantastic holiday (but I have to say unbearably hot at this time of year....early July). The swim up pool bar was fantastic. The food was better than other all inclusives I have stayed at....just couldn't enjoy it properly.

    Peaceful pampering

The Royal Makadi is situated on the beach at Makadi Bay which is approx. 30 minutes by car from Hurghada. It has only been open since September 2005 and this is reflected by the great condition of rooms, public areas, pools, sun loungers etc. Makadi Bay is a quiet resort which consists of hotels- mostly all inclusive so there are no bars, restaurants etc. in the area and nightlife is limited to what the hotels provide.
