... Gourna on the Red Sea. Our first impression of El Gourna was, "we must have made a wrong turn somewhere". Unlike most of the places we have stayed at for the last 4 months, El Gourna was very posh. Our room had a view of the marina, complete with all the million dollar yachts! It was a nice to end the trip in style!

... complex chatting. These moments were much needed in Egypt to get our heads straight and absorb what we have seen in the last week. I have never seen so much sites and history in all my travel days as I have seen in the last week and you don't really have time to think about everything, but this kind of gave us some time to reflect on it and write about it. Hopefully the next stop in Sharm El Sheikh will be a lot better than here. ...

... the room is comfy and the whole apartment is very stylish. The area is very relaxing I had great time by the pool. Weather was great shopping is cheap so cooking cost nothing and you’ll not get food poisoning like in the hotels. Historical Traveler Reviews Sunrise Mamlouk Palace Resort Hurghada
Dezember 2007
We have just returned from a week in Mamlouk Palace in Hurghada, Egypt. It was only the hotel's second season as they only opened in May 2007 so I would expect many more reviews in time! The hotel is magnificent and we have never experienced such incredible service before. It was so lovely that it was hard to leave. Even though they have only been opened for 2 seasons - you wouldn't know.
Overall it was a good (not excellent) experience at the hotel. We stayed 7 nights from Dec. 18. Rooms quite large (we stayed in a family room). One heated pool. The 2 water slides were not finished yet and who knows when, because no one worked on it all week while we were there! We went next door to Sunrise Garden so the kids could use the small water slide there. Sun beds were plenty at the pool and beach and towels are available for free. It was funny that by the pool it was really windy, and it was better suntanning by the beach. The beach is clean and and sandy. Not many swimmers, sea was quite cool. Food in main restaurant was good, but all week it was more or less the same. Service was good and friendly in restaurants and at the bars/snack bars. The kids loved the pizza/hamburgers and I enjoyed the spicy meat sandwiches for lunch at the pool/beach bars. Directly outside the hotel there is nothing to do. Looked like quite a walk to some nearby stores.
Hotel nicht zu empfehlen
Service und Ausstattung gut, Essen teilweise verkocht und gewürzlos, häufiger Fluglärm, 80 % russische Gäste, mittelmässiger Strand, Baulärm
We stayed at Mamlouk Palace for 2 weeks, 6 - 20 Nov 2007.
This hotel was a great choice...I didn't know much about itbefore going but I surprise by the hotel and area. the hotel is not far from the airport but is it quite far from Hurghada town, you can get a taxi to the town there and back for about $20USD, if there is a car full this works out quite cheap. The hotel has a shuttle bus return in the early evening for about 25ED or £2.50!!
I like Sunrise resorts due its really good quality services and hotels. I went to Mamlouk having almost no idea what to expect (very few reviews in the internet) and I must say it is the best hotel I've been in Egypt. Rooms are big ang clean, pools are huuge. Food in restaurants often changes (of course you have few plates which are all the time) diffrent kinds of meat, pasta, salads, fruits, cakes... delicious.
