Sunrise Mamlouk Palace Resort

The less said about the coach journey the better!! Four hours at night on a remote (ish) Egyptian road is not for the faint hearted. Dodgy overtaking, driving on the wrong side of the road and that game where you try to get as close to the vehicle in front as possible at high speed, to name but a few. Oh, did I mention all our dive gear tied to the roof with a piece of string? Well, we and our kit got to our destination in one piece, although nerves a little bit ...
... our first overlanding experience and can’t recommend it highly enough to anyone considering Africa as their next vacation. Next we are off to spend some time diving and relaxing at the Red Sea town of Dahab before continuing on with our travels. In three weeks you’ll be able to see us at Petra, hanging out with the Bedouins, and floating in the Dead Sea, stay tuned.

... the sun beating down but once in the shade the breeze was perfect. I made my way down to the Marriott - passed through security tighter than an airport and made my way to the beach - the water was absolutely stunning - and I can understand why so many tourists (mainly Europeans) would flock here for sun and relaxation. Noticing many dormant cranes and unfinished (yet clean looking) buildings/projects - I again ...
... the Red Sea, but decided not to. We wanted to relax a bit. The
beach here was not located near the hotel, so that was a shame. It has been warm every day since we arrive in Egypt, but our day off to relax was a bit moody and there were clouds out. These days in Hurghada were a bit of a shame in terms of both in and out of the hotel. We had some quiet moments sitting by the cold pool while listening to music and walking ...
... than a little freaked out that when we would all swim off in different directions… after our "guided snorkel" we had a little free time, and the inner child in us had us jumping, bombing and flipping off the boat. In the afternoon we were back on the Bus, heading to Luxor for the night.

Historical Traveler Reviews Sunrise Mamlouk Palace Resort Hurghada
Dezember 2007
We have just returned from a week in Mamlouk Palace in Hurghada, Egypt. It was only the hotel's second season as they only opened in May 2007 so I would expect many more reviews in time! The hotel is magnificent and we have never experienced such incredible service before. It was so lovely that it was hard to leave. Even though they have only been opened for 2 seasons - you wouldn't know.
Overall it was a good (not excellent) experience at the hotel. We stayed 7 nights from Dec. 18. Rooms quite large (we stayed in a family room). One heated pool. The 2 water slides were not finished yet and who knows when, because no one worked on it all week while we were there! We went next door to Sunrise Garden so the kids could use the small water slide there. Sun beds were plenty at the pool and beach and towels are available for free. It was funny that by the pool it was really windy, and it was better suntanning by the beach. The beach is clean and and sandy. Not many swimmers, sea was quite cool. Food in main restaurant was good, but all week it was more or less the same. Service was good and friendly in restaurants and at the bars/snack bars. The kids loved the pizza/hamburgers and I enjoyed the spicy meat sandwiches for lunch at the pool/beach bars. Directly outside the hotel there is nothing to do. Looked like quite a walk to some nearby stores.
Hotel nicht zu empfehlen
Service und Ausstattung gut, Essen teilweise verkocht und gewürzlos, häufiger Fluglärm, 80 % russische Gäste, mittelmässiger Strand, Baulärm
We stayed at Mamlouk Palace for 2 weeks, 6 - 20 Nov 2007.
This hotel was a great choice...I didn't know much about itbefore going but I surprise by the hotel and area. the hotel is not far from the airport but is it quite far from Hurghada town, you can get a taxi to the town there and back for about $20USD, if there is a car full this works out quite cheap. The hotel has a shuttle bus return in the early evening for about 25ED or £2.50!!
I like Sunrise resorts due its really good quality services and hotels. I went to Mamlouk having almost no idea what to expect (very few reviews in the internet) and I must say it is the best hotel I've been in Egypt. Rooms are big ang clean, pools are huuge. Food in restaurants often changes (of course you have few plates which are all the time) diffrent kinds of meat, pasta, salads, fruits, cakes... delicious.
