To the South Island

A travel blog entry by johnnym

My second early start in three days. Symbolically I set my alarm a few minutes later, but I was still up around 5.30 so I could hop on a bus and then get the train and shuttle to the 9.00 ferry. I left at just the right time for a hug from the hostel manager, an early riser, and set off in the dark. The 6.33 train is a commuter special, and it felt …

Fortunately this was sorted out and we got on the tour …

Return of the Campervan

A travel blog entry by mark_lisa_baxby

The next morning we packed up the campervan and then headed off back to Christchurch to drop of the campervan. A sad day! We stopped off for brunch (including bacon and eggs) at beautiful Lake Pearson, before heading down the other side of the pass to the plains and through Sheffield (nothing like the real Sheffield i.e. in the UK, maybe …

The property owners are on site and have only had this hostel since last fall. It has great potential. They picked me up at the I center and dropped me back for an early bus. They are also very close to the Whalewatch/Train station and you only have a short walk to both. The wif/internet i is free but only available from front office.
