    Santorini, worth a visit

My first impression of Santorini was that of Mykonos, a little too touristy with overpriced food and not as relaxed as Paros and Naxos. With an afternoon wandering Fira, the main town I found it to be a combination of the previous islands visited with bars, restaurants, beaches, great views of the Caldera and an active volcano. ... It works. We talk and talk and talk and talk.. We talk so much I begin to think we don't have a room. In the end we become weak and politeness fades away and we stumble over the fact of whether or not we have a room. Further steps down the mountain we are shown to an amazing room. J takes the easy option and forks over 5 Euro to have a donkey take him to the top. The rest of us wish we had by the time we make it to the top! Dans toe has become an issue again and requires some first aid attention, so J goes into a pharmacy and comes out with all the necessary bandages and does an awesome job of fixing it ...

... takes you to the top.
The only way to view the city is to head to higher ground.

The real Santorini is perched high on top of the mountain. The only way there is by walking up it, or via donkey taking you the same way or by cable car, with long lengthy queues. And even when you get to the top, there is still further to go, but that is best done on foot.
It wasn't a let down, however much of our day was taken up ...
