... though. Our map makes a better souvenir than anything. It does not really have things in the right spot and is not to scale. We did get a good picture of the North Gate and East Gate (Er Hai). We were able to check out a Christian Church, but again, could not find the Catholic Church. Bill had his shoes shined by an old guy for 2 yuan. The guy really wanted to fix Bill's shoes, but he did not go for the up sell. We walked through Yang's Garden. There are ...
Dali, Yunnan, China theresabill... around us who were trying to sleep. Day 12 - Kunming to Hong Kong - Tuesday, December 9th After only three hours of sleep we were in Kunming with a round of wicked hangovers and a three hour wait until our flight back to Guangzhou. We arrived in Guangzhou at 10am and were on a train to Hong Kong by 11am. I was back in my room here in Hong Kong by 2pm Tuesday afternoon..... in 24 hours we had taking a 40-minute bus, an 8-hour sleeper train, a 2-hour ...
Dali, Yunnan, China matpatterson99Woke up feeling a bit better at least, and had a pleasant start to the day with a phonecall from m'Shaney, which was immediately ruined by the sight that greeted me after brakfast of a goat being shaven and skinned *shiver* RIGHT OUTSIDE OUR ROOMS, like downstairs opposite the viranda, in the middle of the hotel! There goes lunch! I'm glad I'm already a vegetarian already, or I would be now, I don't like seeing behind the scenes, thank you very much! Headed ...
Dali, China stephfitzsmith... they give you a bowl and chopsticks to use for the time you're there. Then there's a break after lunch and at 3pm we teach all the teachers, monks, and children english for an hour before two more hours of practice. There are rooms in the monastery and that's where all the students live during their time there. Some of the students have been here for months, one guy has been there for over a ...
Dali, Yunnan, China wanderkate... or along the ground. Tubers, a wild variety of mushrooms, turnip-like things, green onion-like things, roots, and potatoes (the first time I have seen potatoes). I was only in Dali for two nights(Sunday and Monday). I basically just wandered around the city and went up one of the mountains for the view. I ate Korean food once (because I was craving kimchee again), mystery noodles, fried goat cheese with yak ...
Dali, China cadkinsca... dull really, its like a poor version of any other city, with not-so-skyscraping skyscrapers and supposedly modern buildings that look outdated and grubby. The Old Town is nice though, amongst all the touristy shops which all sell EXACTLY the same thing directly next to each other i found a nice bakery.. the lady in there knows me now. slightly embarrasing. i also met an english person! and found an english bar! so exciting! Its a bit hippy and dredlock loving ...
