Mui Ne is a beach, one road, lots of restaurants and guesthouses and that's it. The resort if you can call it that is between two towns and has been built specially for tourists. All the same though it was nice to chill out for a couple of days. Didn't start that way though as the bus dropped us about 4km at the top of the resort where all you h...

Hi all (or y'all depending on your point of view), I think we left you at the Life Resort in Quy Nhon - I must say, not a bad place to be left. They had yoga class at 9:00, Tai Chi at 3:00, beach volleyball at 4:00 .... Okay, you get the point. But all good things come to an end, and so we went to Nha Trang. Kidding. - sort of. Nha Trang is a Ve...

Beach time in Nah Trang
Jan 14, 2006 (5 photos)

After one more long night on a bus we arrived early in the morning in Nah Trang, the main beach resort of Vietnam. Since the bus gets a commission from hotels, it dropped us at a pretty nice place but a bit away from the main drag. We were too tired to look around and just crashed in a room there. After a long nap we set off for some food and we...

Da Lat - City of Eternal Spring

From lovely, cultural Hoi An we headed down the coast to the slightly less cultural Nha Trang. Pure beach bum paradise! Nha Trang is Vietnam's budding premier beach resort, with huge stretches of sandy beaches, palm trees, posh beach clubs etc. It gave us a good opportunity to do something active for once, and we took advantage of the watersport...

Life's a beach and then you dive

We thought we wouldn't need a sleeper compartment for our day trip from Hoi An to Nha Trang, so we chose regular seats instead and threw in our lot with the locals. Vietmanese trains aren't the quickest. It's possible the tardiness was due to restrictions enforced after the recent crash, but our 500km journey was somehow stretched out to 10 hour...

After our one off partying binge, the following day we then booked an open bus ticket which is priced from $21 which allows you to travel throughout the entire length of Vietnam, getting on and off wherever you like (as long a you've booked it ahead!!).We were warned that the buses would take you to hotels where the bus company would get a commi...

Good Mornin' Vietnam!

We last left you on the overnight train from Hanoi to Hue. Hue is the ancient capital and we have been to the citadel, the huge palace complete with grand rooms and moat. Second day we toured the DMZ- demilitarized zone, very interesting day complete with ex- army guide who showed us around the old north south diving line- the river, original br...

Saturday July 27th For $35 we got a taxi to the Vietnamese border and then another taxi to Saigon for $15. It would have cost about the same price for the bus from Pnom Penh, which was full, so we left Cambodia in comfort. Along the way we stopped at a ferry crossing and the car was literally swarming with children trying to sell us stuff. We co...

Greetings from 'the jewel of the central highlands', aka le Petit Paris, aka the City of Eternal Spring aka Dalat! We booked a jump-on/jump-off bus ticket from HCMC which is amazingly cheap, only $21 all the way to Hanoi, you can stay as long as you want at 5 locations on the way. Feel a little bit like a package tourist but it's definitely conv...

Great place to stay

from GinaSFCA on 2006-07-29
I stayed here for 3 days in July and had a great time. I was here along with my family (parents, sister, nieces, and nephew) and we took up almost the entire 9th floor (all suites). The employees were very nice and welcoming (they greeted us by our 1st name within a day and was always very helpful). In fact, I think the employees are some of the nice hotel staff I have encountered in Vietnam (I've been to Vietnam 4 times in 2 years and have stayed at over 7 different hotels). The pool is great (although I would prefer it to be shallower) and the pool side food service was great. The location is very central, with the beach just across the street. The suite room I had was great, 2 bathrooms, nice beds, dining area, living area, 2 balconies (with total privacy), and a jacuzzi spa right on the balcony. The rooms are in excellent condition. The breakfast was very good and had a variety of foods for all people. The staff really made it a great place to stay.

My only complaint with Nha Trang was that the water and beaches were not as nice as what it was made to be. Maybe it was the time of the year? Can't wait to go back there when the weather is better.

What a pleasant surprise!

from A TripAdvisor User on 2006-05-25
We read the reviews and were a little scared about booking but due to limited accommodation available we were forced to stay here. What a pleasant surprise, the staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for us, the room was large and well appointed the food was fresh, tasty and plentiful. We had a very relaxing time at the private beach area with very attentive service. The staff spoke very good English and the Swiss trained Food & Beverage manager was always there when we needed him but never in the way when we wanted our own space. This was our highlight of a very pleasant stay in Nha Trang. For those travelers who want a lot of fun with a River cruise or central highland tour, make sure you track down an ex-pat Aussie Mr Rob Carter, he will hook you up with our Easy Rider Mr Loc for a very adventurous time! call Loc on ---

Lovely hotel, lovely people!

from A TripAdvisor User on 2006-05-17
We were very apprehensive about our stay here due to previous bad reviews. Completely unfounded. I dont know how anyone could say the staff were rude. They were all lovely. As for their english not being very good?? I t's a hell of a lot better than my vietnamese! We had absolutely no problem communicating with any of the staff. The pool area and beach area were lovely, as were the restaurants and spa(although this was very expensive relative to others in the area). The bedroom we stayed in was very large, as was the bed, and bathroom, and although I wouldnt have chosen some of the decor it did not affect my opinion of the accomodation.I have stayed in a lot of 5 star hotels, and if I was ever in Nha trang again, I would stay in the Sunrise.

Extremely Wonderful Hotel

from A TripAdvisor User on 2006-05-15
My wife and I spend 5 days at the Sunrise. We were a little aprehinsive about staying due to the negitve reviews previously written, but decided to go ahead. We are so glad we did! The service level at this hotel is remarkable!! (and we spent a week at the Penninsula Bangkok just as a point of reference). Nhung at the guest relations desk is amazing! She arranged everything for us, from our diving to giving us directions for good resturants around town. The breakfast is good and if you decide to eat the hotel for luch and dinner the food is out of this world! I recommend the lamb chops!

Would recommend this to anyone and certianly stay there again. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Love this hotel

from MmeRobillard on 2006-04-29
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights , and we liked it very much the hotel is beautiful so was our room, the breakfast was very good . The staff even if they have problem to speak english were very nice. The staff at the pool were exceptionnal. I would recommended this hotel and wish we would stay longer . It is really a 5 star hotel

Not a 5-star

from A TripAdvisor User on 2006-03-13
In general - Stars comes very easily in Vietnam. This Hotel is a nice place to stay; however the inventory, food and service don't match the level of a five (or a three) star Hotel in Europe. Everything is horrible overcharged which could be ok if it came with a matching service level, but it doesn't. The kids' pool is no bigger than a bathtub. The staff doesn't speak more than a few sentence of English.

A Five Star Hotel, but worst than 3 Stars

from A TripAdvisor User on 2006-01-31
A Five Star Hotel, but worst than a 3 stars. They do not have enough hot water for the second shower. If you want to take a bath, then have it with cold water. The bed sheet is same as a 3 stars. Not worth the money to stay there. Service is not nice, people work there are rude. They act like they do not want your business.

Bad service

from A TripAdvisor User on 2005-09-03
We had arranged a transfer from the airport to the hotel but when we arrived there was no-one there to meet us. Once we got our own taxi to the hotel they appologise and said they were not sure what the mix up was. We were due to stay for five nights and uncountered numerous problems for a five star hotel. We asked the hotel to confirm our flight tickets for us which we had to ask three times to be done.

On settling our account the night before as we had an early flight the bill was incorrect four times before we got the right bill then we got charged a different amount from our visa than the final bill.

Not the type of service you would expect from a hotel like this

We loved it!!!

from beacon732003 on 2005-03-20
I stayed at the Sunrise in Dec 2004 with my boyfriend. We were a little apprehensive before our arrival as the resort hotel had just opened.

As promised, we had a sea-facing room, only that we couldn't swim or suntan at the beach, which was less than 5 minutes away. Reason being that the tide was too high during that season.

Apart from that, we had a wonderful experience at The Sunrise...and fond memories too.

Upon arrival, we were duly welcomed by a member of staff, who offered us our welcome drinks whilst we waited for Reception to clear administrative matters. The dear lady kept us company till our room was ready, in a short 5 minutes or thereabouts.

We were really impressed by the room!!! It was spacious...warm, comfortable...and much more!!! I personally was impressed by the toiletries that they offered, having been around different parts of the world. And my boyfriend especially loved that great towels that they offered. The beds,... there were a good sized double bed and a single bed,...were ultra comfortable...and we had the best sleep in them, compared to our other travels.

Staff-wise...we have no complaints at all, but compliments...each morning, we were greeted by first names (by those who made an effort to know us)..or a very polite "Mam/Sir" by those who were not not so fluent with the English language....at breakfast. And the buffet breakfast, that came complimentary with the room, was delectable!!!...We had a voucher for dinner and we chose to try out the Chinese restaurant. The service, again, was impeccable!! I have to admit a number of the staff there could work on their English more, but when one couldn't undersatnd us, he/she promptly sought help from a colleague who did, hence cutting down any frustration for us.

We enjoyed our stay at The Sunrise trememdously...and hold it as one of our yardsticks of measurement towards Good Hotels in the world.

Don't stay at this hotel

from A TripAdvisor User on 2005-02-26
Hotel is new and nice, but the local people who work here are rude and never stick to their words. They offered you one price and when you agreed to it, they will give you something else. We were offered a deluxe room, the minute we checked in, we were given a superior room which is a lower grade than deluxe room. Then they offered us if we stay longer than 1 night, our rate would be lower. Well, we stayed 5 nights and we still have to pay at a higher rate. There is no where else to go, so we decided to stay here. Definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone because of the people who work here.
