Many theories established.....

... massage it was time for dinner. We had one place in mind, May Kaidees; lovely veggie food and very cheap too!

On our way to dinner who did we see but Guy, a Thai man we had met in Koh Pangan. (Lesson 2 you never know who you will meet again, even if you think its all over, the world is a small place). It was really nice to see him and he was full of 'ohhhhhhhh'. After a delicious meal we headed back to say hi and have a drink. Bee was there too (a ...

Fart the Cabbie

So, it's been eighty years since I've updated this thing. I'm aware. But when you're schlepping grammar and spelling for thankless 18 year olds, 2 scary things happen. First, your English starts to sound like their English. I'm no longer sure what a gerund is, or if I go shopping or go to shopping. If you're Meta, I'm kidding. Chill out lady, I still talk English good.

So a few weeks back we finally finished signing lots of documents that were mostly in Thai. I'm fairly certain I ...

Thursday 24/09/09
We had planned to get up early so midday was good indeed. We decided to rent bikes to fit in as many temples as possible. Ayutthaya is the former capital so ya there ya go. We got our bike as Bruce took off with Orla and left the rest behind. Didnt see them for a while. We went to the first temple...Wat Ratchaburana. Wat Mahathat was next when we finally got ...

Doug Duck and Ruins

... The place was known for having a lounging Buddha, which is basically just a Buddha that is laying down on his side resting his head on one of his arms. That was not the most impressive thing about the place though. The whole place was very beautiful and more of what you would think of or see in movies like Tomb Raider. Tall pointed temples and the whole entire place was completely surrounded by meditating Buddha’s. I had a great time climbing around in the ruins and ...

Wow what a couple of days!

On Tuesday early I go to get the bus to Bangkok for the first of my school interviews. The 5 am bus is not running - no people- although the clerk assured me yesterday that the busses ran on the hour. The 6 am bus is not running - no people. I sit in the dark, go over the 7-11 and get a can of Birdy - canned coffee (made by Nestle, btw.) And wait. I watch the flouresent vested ...

Staring at Wot?

... managed to catch Tanya's virus with avengence, thumping headache, runny nose hot and cold flushes. However, where Tanya was smart and stayed in bed for 2 days till it past I stupidly decided to be all macho and go on a 3 hour temple tour in order to 'walk it off'. Boy but that turned out to be a bad decision...
Spent the next three hours semi passed-out in the back of a tuk-tuk being driven around Ayutthaya with 3 other people. Now I don't remember ...

Ruins, elephants and baby tigers

... like they get enough to eat somehow, but many of them have sores and don't do much but lie in the shade and sleep.

The highlight was going to Elephant village which was not on our priority list but the driver took us there before we produced it. People generally pay 1000 baht per couple to take a one hour elephant ride around the big wat there. Believe or not I've ridden an elephant before (at that ramshackle Vancouver Game Farm with my cousin Lonny ...

Wat's Up Doc?

... you need to go check it out for yourself. I spent a lot of time there, just walking around taking photos or sitting and looking up at the towers. It was a nice place to end the day.

Back at the guesthouse I had some very spicy green curry for dinner and then went back to my room to relax. I had thought about going back out that evening to view the ruins all lit up but decided that I would save that for next year. It's always nice to have something to look forward to.

Busy bustling Bangkok

... on a sub soi and found our youth hostel, Suk II. Nearly missed it..... old wooden house surrounded by greenery on the corner of the lane. Very quaint and pokey with lots of character. Definitely the place for a backpack and not suitcases as we were on the 3rd floor and had to carry them up small windy staircases!! Our room is spartan, but clean and comfortable. The ...
