... lamb, pork, kumara, pumpkin & yams which he said was really good. Mine was excellent. They taunted us with Pavlova just to show us Aussies how good they make it so naturally I had some. Garry had steam pudding & custard.

After lunch we headed down to the thermal pools. Rob radioed ahead to check how the main geyser (pronounced gyser - he said old men are geezers) was going and how long before it blew. We had plenty of time to reach the bridge near the geyser. ...

... but it was really chilly, in complete contrast to the superheated steam we could see issuing forth from various places. This is the geothermal heartland of NZ and I was fascinated by the fact that steam would billow/wisp/creep out from gardens, concrete walkways and drains. Nothing like this in England!

... but with more classrooms. The playground is still in the same spot with more play equipment. Seeing these things brings back the memories. Very cool!

From there we went over to Matua to checkout our old house… 64 Meadowland Street. I got a few photos but with the house set back off the road it was a bit hard. I even went through the park and walked down to the Mutua Marshlands to see ...

... the backstraps slips. Some of the stitching on both bags is looking a bit dodgy. We also travel with a small daysack which we use when we can leave our main bags in our accommodation - and we're on our 4th daysac since we started travelling. Hopefully the present one will last a little bit longer.

... It was later identified as the Devil's Darning needle dragonfly. On a lot of the lower tree trunks were what looked like 'ghost cicadas', on closer inspection they turned out to be the empty exoskeletons of the clapping cicada. These empty husks stay clinging to the tree trunk when the actual insect moults out of them. The cicada then climbs back into the forest canopy with a nice new slightly larger exoskeleton to live in.
