Hello 'Bay of Plenty'- Tauranga Sailed quietly into the bay of plenty about 8.30am,eventually docking about 9.30am. We had breakfast quite early, then went down to catch the shuttle bus into the town, it was 4km away, so there was no chance of walking in.Again, we were struck at how like England, and in particular the Lake District it seemed, with the rolling hills. We walked around for a time and then of course it was coffee time!We continued to ...

We are staying in a small bed and breakfast here which is really old ...

... We got to taste the honey and it was pretty potent! Once we got back to the motel we hiked down the mountainside to the beach and spent an hour or so before heading to the next town. Our third destination was Te Kaha and a beautiful beachside hostel. Although it's more like a guest house than a hostel. The guy who owns it has converted two rooms into dorm type rooms but apparently only Stray passengers stay there. Jason taught us a song on the way in Maori for us to ...

... town sits on a layer of steam that the Maoris traditionally pipe into their buildings for heating and cooking. Well that's fine but there are roadside pools of water that emit steam, there are hissy vents, there is steam leaking from drains, there can be a hole in the ground with mud bubbling in it. Not to mention the plethora of thermal swimming pools. Our hotel has ...
