Great Expectations... So tonight we sat in the common room of our college and watched Obama take office in the US of A. We had an American contingent, Danish, New Zealand and Australian. The different perspectives were very entertaining - especially watching the Americans glued to the TV with high hopes of the future. I joined them in wishing these dreams and plans can come to fruition - America needs it. The world needs it. Properly not the best idea ...
Copenhagen, Zealand, Denmark nomadicnikki... letters in words anyway), but I start language classes on Monday so that will be a god send! In between asking myself what have a I gotten myself into only about 10 times in one day (my first day) I was falling in love with the city - my new home! It is about -3c at the moment with snow predicted but i want to go out to play the tourist today and see a few things... so I will sign off and promise pictures next time! Hej Hej (bye bye in Danish)
Copenhagen, Zealand, Denmark nomadicnikki... into comfortable clothes and then decided to go and stay at her friend Linda's house, and then we'd watch a movie. So, I got into my pink sweatpants that were rather baggy and with PINK written on the butt and then my teal shirt with my white sweatshirt, and my white and pink shoes. Oh yes. I looked very attractive. A true scumbag in my first day in Denmark! Melissa was also wearing sweats but still looked better than myself. On our way back to the train station ...
Copenhagen, Zealand, Denmark extremetraveler... time we got back though I was exhausted and we both pretty much went straight to bed. Where she lives is apartments for the uni students, 15 people share a kitchen and lounge/TV room, but each has their own rooms with an ensuite. It's quite a cool setup, I want to live there! It's great cause you can be as social or anti-social as you like. Saturday morning Julie had a soccer game, so I went along as the cheer squad. It was freezing cold but no rain ...
Copenhagen, Zealand, Denmark lovin_apples... the rotation the betting was done meant that I had to bet before him. I played a large bet, but kept enough back to beat everyone else on the table. He bet everything. My only chance was for him to bust. We both got very good cards, but I was at 20 and he at 19. I saw good things in store. Turns out fate was not with me as the dealer busted so we both won. He ended up beating me by $200. He won the pot of $250 cash money. I got a T-Shirt. I guess I should be ...
Helsingborg, Sweden simru12... each get one amber beer and one dark beer. We both chose Tuborg Gold for the amber and liked them a lot. For the dark, I chose the Carlsberg Dark, and Jeff took Tuborg Brown. We didn't like these as much since they were apparently made for European tastes and were much sweeter than we're used to. We took that bus back into the city, which let us off near Tivoli Gardens. Tivoli is the oldest Amusement park in Europe, but is contained in about 4 city blocks ...
Copenhagen, Denmark simru12Hej all! (Hi, yes, no, and thank you are the only words I know in Danish). The first day that I got here, we went into the city and saw all of the sights, which were quite fabulous! We took the metro-like train in the early afternoon and got off near these long yellow townhouse-ish places built by Christian the Fourth (the king that everyone has to know) for sailors and their families to live in. Then we walked to the Marble ...
Copenhagen, Denmark anniemac7... long it was). Flight to Copenhagen was fine, I just wanted to sleep for the entire 2 hour flight but of course me sleeping at night in a comfortable bed is near impossible let alone a vertical ironing board known as airplane seats. You think the one good thing about having the flu is that you'd be so drowsy you could just sleep all the time at any time of day.......doesn't happen when it comes to me unfortunately.....i just get more and more tired and therefore ...
Copenhagen, Denmark oliviar22Today I went to the Open Air Museum. The open air museum is 80 acres of houses, farmhouses, apparently even an industrial town (didn't see that part). Best of all...it's free! Which was good since I put down $50 to get transportation passes which will hopefully last awhile. I also spent $20 to go to a sporting event. I know...what am I thinking? But I wanted to experience European sports fans ...
Copenhagen, Denmark sarahindenmark... to figure out which bus we should take to go downtown. After a couple questions, we found the right one and grabbed a seat. Once downtown we headed to Stroget and looked for a place for lunch. We walked past an Irish pub that Tom had gone to his first day in town, Streckers, so stopped there for a bite to eat. After lunch we continued down Stroget and saw some people gathered down a side street. We walked over to see what the commotion was, and ...
