... lost. Things looked a lot different seven hours later and I had even written down landmarks to help me when I returned.
One of my references was a drugstore and would you believe I got off the bus right in front of it and didn't see it. So I wandered around and around and around looking for something vaguely familiar. Keep in mind Malta was already simmering and sweltering, and the hot sun was a good incentive for me to quickly find ...
... it.
On EasyJet the flight attendants are just as friendly as can be the entire flight and are constantly asking if anyone wants to buy food or drink. On British they handed out the food and disappeared for an hour. EasyJet is trendy and growing. British is stodgy and in financial trouble. Gee, I wonder why after comparing the two offerings.
While I was at the airport I picked up a paper and was glancing through it and wouldn´t you know it ...
Malta is beautiful. Everywhere you look, the Mediterranean sea is shining there, inviting you to take a dip. And when you're not being mesmerised by the beautiful blue waters, you're looking at the hundreds of historical sites and old, old buildings around the country. Not to mention the one church that Malta has for each of the 365 days of the year! It's hard to imagine how they can fit so much to do on to one tiny little island.
Not having been on a ...
... The day has ended, and back to the Sliema harbour. Once I got there, I noticed the light of the sun was optimal and we were almost straight accross from Valletta. I walked along the bay all the way to the end and had a wonderful opportunity to take some incredible photographs of the walled city of Valletta. A perfect end of day activity, after a great day of sightseeing around the southern part of the Island of Malta.
Marsaxlokk, Island of Malta, Malta elaqid... rozrywki. Jedna mala dziewczynka podbviegla do "Mikolaja" i ucalowala go, mowiac: dziekuje ci, Mikolaju, za ten prezent [nie pamietam, co to bylo]. Skad wiedziales, ze wlasnie tego pragnelam? :o) Reakcje dzieci na widok Swietego byly rozne. Niektore z przerazenia niemal plakaly, inne sie na niego rzucaly i same siadaly mu na kolana. Ogolnie dzien minal zaskakujaco dobrze. Wczorajszy kryzys wieczorny juz mi minal. Nikomu jednak nie polecam Swiat bez ...
Malta, Malta bogna... an hour. We found parking in one of the side alleys and headed straight to the local fish/souvenir market. M is known for its fishing culture with the local 'luzzus' (bright coloured fishing boats) synonymous with Venetian Gondolas in this part of the world. The market was great with stalls selling everything from fish, meat, clothes, souvenirs and fruit/veg. There were just as many locals as tourists. There were also many seaside fish restaurants ...
Marsaxlokk, Island of Malta, Malta omkar... far from my hotel balcony. Turns out the particular church below that dome is Our Lady of Mt Carmel. As could be expected it was very nice inside, something that appealed to me was that the church was not so sombre as the traditional baroque ones. The walls were plain white and the fittings were more sparse, providing a more welcome atmosphere than some of the others. I also managed to track down the most historic and one of the most important churches in Malta, the Church ...
Valletta, Malta andrew.galeaMy sister Debra came to visit from Feb. 16 through the 25th. We relaxed, did a bit of sightseeing, sat in the sun, had cappuccino most mornings and went dancing. For the most part the weather was good. A few days cloudy and chilly and several days sunny with stretches of warm weather. She enjoyed it while Minnesota was getting over a foot of snow dumped on it.
Valletta, Malta timkuliToday Henri and I went to Gozo (my second time) and then took a ferry to Comino. It was 6 Lira each which sounded like a rip off but we did it anyway. Comino has an amazing blue lagoon. But it is small and full of tourists. There were a lot of people so we tried to find a spot where there was no one and succeeded (so we thought). The water was full of jellyfish and so we just sat there enjoying the sun and watching the jellyfish. I tried to get a picture of one that came up to the ...
