In the last 3 weeks I made sure I'd enjoy Malta. So I spend 3 weeks going to the beach everyday after work, getting on that tan, trying out new sea dives (to show other travelers and be cool :p), taking my rough guides and lonely planet books of Laos and Cambodia (without ever reading past the first 2 picture full ...
First week, nothing but fun.
... there must have been 6 cars trying to merge into one lane with a couple more driving down the shoulder of the road to beat everyone there. Now my driver did not speak a word of English, yet his Liason/ whatever, had a very good base of English. As tired as I was at this point (5am in Ottawa), I enjoyed conversation about the city, asked about the hotspots to visit, and phrases that will get me by when I return to Istanbul on future cruises. Valletta, Gozo and other cities
... pastizzis. Locals are friendly. Surprisingly everything is in English. We thought that Maltese would be the first then English but no its the other way around. So many shops are always closed guessing its end of the season. Local buses are fun and some have seen better days especially when the drivers crunch every gear change. Overall we found Malta a lot cheaper than a lot of other European countries. This really surprised us. We could eat here ...
Malta's Knights, Frights and Insites
... on parking stalls in the unfinished units. In the harbours huge luxury sailboats and yachts rub shoulders with brightly painted luzzus (fishing boats). For those boating enthusiasts check out the Maltese Falcon on the web. The most luxurious boat I've ever seen!!
Our apartment is in Bugibba (north east Malta). We thought we could walk to a lot of the sights but short distances quadruple when you take in to account the shoreline.
