Karcula does have the Cathedral of St. Marco (it was closed when we got there) and several museums, but I couldn't seem to find the entrance to the Marco Polo museum. :(

All in all, a good day but it was long journey and by the time we got back to the Villa, everyone was looking forward to a good sleep before our journey onwards.

(p.s. Pics to come on travelpod later when i have time...)

... 20 kuna change each which she had. It was kind of cool because she was enjoying a Polish type lunch, rosol (chicken soup) and pomidorowa salata (tomotoe salad). We thanked her for everything and were reassured that the water in our apartment was the same (her sink was full of dishes so we didn't want to interrupt her lunch anymore than we had).

Ok so after doing some more laundry and doing a hybrid sink and shower system, then clothesline it, David and I ...

Dubrovnik - Croatia

Back on the mainland, we hugged the coast down to Dubrovnik, which was a great finale to Croatia. Just when we thought we may be 'walled town'-ed out, this place was the perfect antidote. Originally a 6th century fortified port built by the Venetians, it has such a long and interesting history, culminating in its unnecessary bombing by the Serbs during the war here. Interestingly, the Croats used the bombing of ...

... to go to the toilets & had my first real experience with a squat toilet! Really NOT a good day for it!!!!! I'm not in a hurry to try that again..... Early afternoon we had a cruise to a couple of the islands around Dubrovnik. Unfortunately, once on the boat, it got rather overcast & a bit of a wind came up, so not many people went for a swim - Rod did though! He had a great time swimming around exploring the bottom of the sea.

... flag without a single bite in anger. Georgie did slightly better but the waiter was kind enough to give us a box to bring it home in. We went back to our apartment and while I carried out yet another vain search for something on the television the girls got busy with a jigsaw they found in a cupboard. As we were going to bed things were hotting up in the bar underneath out apartment. Jess reports that they continued carousing until about 4am but I was oblivious to it all.

... out well in the end and we had a splendid place to stay for only 30 Euros a night. Split`s picturesque old centre is pretty much restricted to the Diocletian`s Palace, but wandering (yet more) narrow streets and eating more lovely cakes and ice-cream is as fine a way to pass the time as any I`ve found so far.(thanks, BTW to those of you who have made me aware that I`m getting chubby, Jon!). The ruins of the old cathedral were being setup for a ...

... more Western, and had huge numbers of vineyards just before the border. As soon as we crossed into Bosnia (well, technically Herzegovina, which is the south of the country), it started to look a bit more like Albania. The buildings were a little more run down and stark, and as we entered Mostar I started to wonder what I was doing. I arrived as the sun was setting and was feeling lost without my comfort blanket of a Lonely Planet guide! So I had no map of the town ...

... wrong currency. Then the wrong amount. I couldnt think. Anyway.... I was only there for one day so i just walked around along the old front line. Its easy to get lost because the place looks like a paintball arena. Its wierd, apparantley the Bosnian croats live on one side and the muslims with on the other. But i cant tell the difference between either and everyone was really friendly. The war they had seems so pointless. I went to the ...

Just to let you know, none of it is real. None of it. We're sat in a flat above a shop in Dagenham, making it all up. Spending our days cutting and splicing other people's photos with our faces, talking about Jordan and playing Mario Kart on the Super Nintendo. None of it is real..... Or is it? Or is it?

Oh, and Lucy offered to put us up when we get to New Zealand, and I'm delighted to tell the young lady that I double checked and a verbal contract IS legally binding in Croatia.... But I digress. Mostar's a fun place. It's Bosnia's second city, or Herzegovena's first, depending on how you look at things ...
