Historical Traveler Reviews of Sun Zeynep Belek

What a beautiful place

from A TripAdvisor Member
Yes the Russians where rude and inpolite, but we didn't let them spoil our holiday.

The food was excellent, we tried something different every night.

The surroundings where breath taking. clean and well maintained.

The evening entertainment was not always very good but they tried there best. The syncronized swimming was fantastic.

We heard people moaning about the star rating but we know a five star there is not a five star like it is back in England.

There were no late check out rooms available so they provided a courtsey room we could use, towels were provided.

Overall we had a fantastic holiday and we really did not want to come home.

Good holiday

We went to Sun Zeynep in July 2005. We arrived in the early hours of the morning and the porter took us in the pitch dark down an uneven path. My child fell, blood etc, not a good start.....

We were in the bungalows and my first impression was small. I can manage small but the bathroom was dirty. I complained to the rep, but it took days of housekeeping to get the room and bathroom up to a presentable standard.

That said, we did very much enjoy the rest of the hotel. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. The pools were brilliant - especially the slide pool and the beach and sea was beautiful.

The food was great - good variety - you'd always find something that you'd like. The Turkish night really is something else.

We went into the nearby town to go the market - great fun but be prepared to haggle. Don't bother taking Lira - just take Euro's. i tried cashing my Euro travellers cheques at the hotel but they give me the equivalent in Lira. It can be very complicated trying to work out Old Lira, new lira and Euro!

It was our first all inclusive holiday and apart from the room everything else was fantastic.

I had subsequently written to Thomas Cook, complete with photographs and I await feedback from them.

Be prepared for 99% russians with no manners/ more a 3 * than a 5*

The room was very clean but very small for four 2 adults & 2 kids. We reported the fridge wasnt working and it was not fixed for the duration of our stay ( 2 wks).

The hotel is very clean and the turkish stafff work very very hard - they never stop! The marble floor area around the pool is a death trap, and whilst there we saw 20+ kids with split open chins, broken bones etc. Horrific!!! No lifeguard either round the pools, saw a few near misses as regards drowning whilst I was there. The big pool has no shallow end for the kids, older kids can stand in it but not little ones. Some kiddies didnt realise this.

The food was quite good in the evening but lunch times were the same always, tuna, pasta, pizza, chip, salad, soup. which is great when you firat arrive but after 2 weeks it drives you mad. Ice creams come out between 3 -5 pm and cakes come out at 5pm.

I did read the reviews before i went and thought that some reviews were a bit over the top as regards the russian people. How wrong, 80% of the guest were russian and what a terrible bunch they were. They never queue for anything all of the other natonalities queue not them. had a few run ins with them as I was not prepared to stand for that. They never say thank you for any thing, the staff at hotel are lovely and us brits always say thankyou, they dont . I was sat round the smalll kiddies pool and a russian family thought it would be funny to chuck a whole sunbed and table with towels into the pool for the fun of it! The russian children would use the floor instead of going to the topilet - it was awful.

One of the reasons I think they act in this way about queueng is that, when they book their holidays they just get offered "ultra all inclusive , which means thye can have all the alcoholic sprits they want. We can upgrade to that for 6 euros per day per person - if a family of four wants it, all of the family members have to pay 6 euros each per day even the babies and children. So they have this blue and black band as opposed to our blue or pink band and they think they are more superior than us and they do not need to queue.

I did go a bit mad, as the hotel is in the middle of nowhere and it is not easy just to go out. 2 weeks is along time in such a confined palce.

Watch out when you are buying things at some of the shops in the hotel and if you are paying in turkish lira, make sure you dont get ripped off by the exchange rate they use. It was about 2.1 lira to the pound I think and they were using 2.50. so stick to your guns!!

all in all it was not a terrible holiday, i wouldnt go back. It was clean but the ruusians really ruined it. It should just be for them and then they can be rude together. let em get on with it.

One more note, if you have a late flight dont bank on getting a late check out. They did not let any brits have one. They do provide a mini club room which they will make up with beds for the kids. No courtesy room either!!! You have to use the sauna or turkish baths to get showered they will provide towels -but this is such a night mare with small kids. Please be aware this is by no means a british 5 star I would say it is a strong 3 *.

Death by turkey stews !

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I planned a quiet holiday before school holidays so were dismayed to find ourselves awash with young children from Russia, Germany and other parts of Europe with a few British children too. This is not a hotel for couples seeking peace and quiet and the hotel publicity should emphasise this more strongly.

The food was monotonous, poorly presented and with little Turkish flavour served in what became more like a school canteen than a 5* hotel restaurant. Every meal had several varients of turkey stew- no whiff of lamb kebabs!!

We went into nearby Kadrye on the tractor bus - 1 euro, most evenings to avoid the restaurant and found Adana restaurant - wonderful authentic food from the Adana region with freshly baked bread to die for. Very reasonable - 7 euros for complimentary starter, main course with delicious bread and then fruit platter.

Bungalow rooms spacious at the hotel and maid service good. Beautifully kept gardens. Sea was 27 f - very clear and warm.

This is definitely not a 5 * hotel- try the Xanadu for a more up market expeience; we will next time. Sue King

Food disgraceful

after holidaying twice at the old sun zeynep(not the new otium russian run version) i was horrified by the lack of any quality evening food hardly any fresh food insight and subsequently 6 out of eight of our party were hit with stomach problems (mainly diarroah)don't get me wrong though if it's your first visit to the hotel and your used to the food they serve up in bulgaria then you won't be dissapointed with the hotel as it has some great amenities, there are slides for the kids the amination staff are fantastic but unfortunately unless you love to eat tuna (served at the pool bar every other day) you like most of us would'nt eat the food. All i can say is you don't have to believe this review ask volkan the head bellboy at the hotel as he like us is disgusted to what has happened to a once fantastic hotel

Loved it!

We have just come back and are already booking again for next year! The hotel is great, extremely clean, loads going on from ten in the morning till gone midnight for both kids and adults!! There is such a selection of food and I fail to see why anyone could go hungry, the staff are fantastic - cant do enough for you. The animation team are all great, never seen people work so hard and get to know everyone so much. The entertainment is not the best i have seen, but you really enjoy it knowing how hard they all work.

The one downfall is that there is absolutley nothing outside of the hotel. The nearest town is 3 km away by tractor and trailer, and Belek is a taxi ride away but worth it for shopping. But who needs the outside world when there is so much happening at the hotel - didnt see the kids from breakfast till tea time - they loved it too!!

Sun Zeynep is the best hotel (JUST)

from A TripAdvisor Member
Personally i thought the hotel was fantastic. The entertainement at night could have been a lot better. Sometimes the food was naff but what do you expect when they were catering for the Russians and germans. (The russians are now owners of the hotel) My Partner ate nothing but rice and chips all holiday cos there wasnt that much variety. We were told there was alot more variety the previous year. Other than the food problem the hotel was fantastic. Friendly people and gorgeous surroundings.

Excellent

from A TripAdvisor Member
been to this hotel twice now and had an excellent holiday both times

The facilities at the hotel are superb and there is plenty to do during the day although the evenings tended to be lacking in activities there is a disco every night for both kids and adults (at different times)

Pools are great but on the cold side

Food is fantastic with a variety of options every day

if you are thinking of booking get a bungalow room (they are bigger than the hotel rooms and slightly more secluded with great views)

an excellent all inclusive hotel
