    ... be found. We were very lucky to find a really good English-speaking assistant in the tourist bureau, and we were soon off to find our hotel and get ready for an afternoon of sightseeing.

    Because the weather was sunny and warm, we left the backpacks at the hotel and headed off to find the bus for Matsue Castle, armed with our instructions from the tourist bureau.

    ... the knees not being what they used to be!

    We absolutely loved the house, with its enclosed verandah, screen walls and tatami mats on the floor. We even had our own little garden.

    Early start of the day, wake up call at 6am! It was pretty good to book train tickets the day before, otherwise we would be struggling with time!
    Shinkansen to Okyama then JR Express train to Matsue - total travelling time just over 4 hours.
