... area. As I turned out 1779 and it’s close neighbour Agnes Water are both very small seaside resorts quite pleasant but not of great interest otherwise. 1770 is so called because it was first charted by Captain Cook in – guess! – yes you’ve got it, there is large sheltered harbour and lots of clean sandy beaches. I spent the day on the beach which was relaxing and enjoyable, the sun was hot but the water quite cold. Tomorrow on to Hervey Bay and Fraser Island.

Day 283-287 Emu Park (Yeppoon)

... Whilst at the hotel we met a couple there with their son (who was sporting groovy school clothes for Sacred Heart, Emu Park) who happened to be the owners. They had just dropped in on their day off to watch one of their horse race (4th). They left us with a tip in the last, Greg of course had to give it a go and we promptly lost our $20! I’m sooo glad he’ll be off the punt on Saturday, he will probably be nursing a sizable hangover anyway.

Beautiful Sunshine

... nothing in Rockhampton on Sunday is open. I don’t understand how such a big city can just shut down for the day. So we resigned ourselves to baked beans (or some other tinned food) for lunch/dinner and headed for Yeppoon. To our surprise, everything in Yeppoon was open. It’s not a big town but everything was open. So after arriving and setting up, we headed into town to get our supplies, spent the afternoon on the beach eating an icecream. Beautiful

... to Frasier islands.

14.04.09: The weather seems to get a bit better this morning for our trip to Fraser islands. On the ferry to the islands, we even managed to spot a couple of dolphins. We are in a 4x4 bus because the roads of the islands are all made out of sand. The driver was German with the thickest accent ever. Sean reckoned he was overdoing it for the tourists! The original itinerary had to be ...

Day 73 - Emu Park

... we got to our room realised bed number 3 was occupied as there was stuff on the bed. There were only a couple of people still sat outside the bar so it must have been one of the girls from there. By the time we had washed up for bed the girl came in and we chatted for a while. I couldn't tell you what her name was thought as I don't think we did introductions. Got to bed about midnight.

Rockhampton. Tuesday August 19, 2008

... week of the tour I received emails and texts from 4 other people from my Egypt tour alone. I expressed my disappointment with the group dynamics with her, then went back to the party. Everything was going strong until about 1am, when we all decided to call it quits and go to bed so we didn't have to keep the owners up all night to serve us. I was cool with that, since I was far gone by that point after having drunk plenty of beer, whiskey, and wine. A nasty combination.

On the way to Emerald

... an english bloke I met here, said that after 7 months of travelling the country, he figured that Forbe's was the best hostel he's stayed at. Not because it's clean and tidy ('cause of course, it's not) but because of the atmosphere. The reason for this, he said, was because there was no TV room. Just the courtyard. Everybody provided entertainment for everybody else. It was so nice, in fact, that I stayed there for two weeks. It was dangerous near the end ...

... back of the crocodile and thrash around theatrically to their heart’s content. I really did like this guy’s style.

After returning back to the dining hall for the rest of the meal, we got the chance to hold a baby crocodile. Its skin was surprisingly soft and smooth, not scaly at all as I’d imagined. There was no need for the temperature to drop below 10 degrees Celsius before playing with this little tacker, however its jaws were taped ...
