- here we got on a camel (dromedar to be precise) and went to the desert to watch the sunset, sleep over in a hotel

... e dopo solo sabbia. Dondoliamo sul cammello mentre il sole tramonta dietro le dune. E dopo, con un enorme cielo ancora azzurro, infiliamo le mani nella sabbia a sentire dove ha nascosto il calore del sole. Intorno un silenzio perfetto interrotto solo dagli sbuffi dei cammelli. Come ultima meraviglia prima di andare a dormire abbiamo ammirato a naso in su tutto l'universo, complice una luna neonata, sottile squarcio di luce nella notte. Ah, il deserto...

Arrived at Douz, the gateway to the Sahara at just after 4pm. Dressed in traditional clothing out of necessity, the heat is tremendous, never felt anything like it. Words cannot describe the experience, especially when the sand started to whip around us. The Sahara sand is incredibly soft and fine, feels just like powder. The Desert was very disorientating.

... systems and culture in general. We went to Tozeur and saw Troglodyte homes that are built into the ground to be invisible from the Romans. It was here that they filmed Star Wars (the original) -Luke's Aunt and Uncle's home. we also saw homes built out of the stones of the atls mountains (desert of rocks) that were also invisible to the eye until it was too late (Roman safety again). We then drove to Douz which is the start of the Sahara desert. We did the typical tourist thing ...

... out my hands. I even got escorted to the nearest shop to buy some milk. Having been stopped I didn't fancy camping next to the road so I headed into a farmhouse and asked if I could camp round the back out of sight. No problem. I was invited to sleep in the house and have food - but I declined as light is at a premium and I want to be up early tomorrow ...
