    Dear Family & Friends,

We have just returned from over a month away cruising the wild mountainous Carian and Lycian coasts of Turkey. The Carians and Lycians were indigenous people speaking an Indo-European language, living here before the Greeks arrived about 1000 BC. Until a coastal road was built access by land was very difficult, and most access by sea; in Byzantine times it became a pirate haunt. The Lycians were famous for their ...

... the bus drivers. We parked in the back corner next to a park / kiddies' playground and went for a walk. Although Dalyan is clearly a tourist base it had a very positive and relaxed feel. The streets were clean and attractively designed.

... choice for our last evening meal. We had enjoyed other dishes but the speciality dishes requiring "slow cooking" definitely needed to be sampled. We pre – ordered a lamb dish cooked in a clay pot and Serife’s personal favourite, a chicken bake. These were supplemented by meze, a chicken cooked in an iron pan and a mince pancake.

... you got it... it's time for our last lunch for this holiday. Aydin comes up trumps with his table choice for us, right at the front of the terrace overlooking the whole of the bay with Marmaris shimmering on the horizon... Why haven't we sat here earlier in the holiday? Never mind, we're here now and we'll make the most of it, enjoying our longest lunch time yet. We wanted to savour the stunning view, the lovely food, and of course each other's company ...
