Rhodes ...
... from where my people came. I continued to act brave. Home Sick, who me? no, never, just don't tell anyone else in our semester abroad who drank in the culture like blood thirsty vampires, that I would have tradd my front row seas to the Ameica's cup for a really fast flying dolphin ride back to the united States; albeit a very short one. I just needed a few minutes to slam back some cold beer, I mean ice cold beer, and I had a hankering for plain ole miller ...
Lindos, Dodecanese, Greece basugar2000... Rhodes. The island of Rhodes (Rhodes city is on the northernmost tip) is at the crossroads between Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and because of its position in major sea routes, is rich in history. It has four harbours! - and has been inhabited since 4000BC.
The taxi driver told me that most of the tourist places on the island were closed from the end of the September till next May, and indeed they were - he pointed out all the buildings in ...
... starboard side so we could make out the landmarks. When the weather eventually cleared we walked the short 500m to entrance to the Fort.
This was our second trip to Rhodes. Previously we hired a car and toured around the island taking in the ancient site of Lindos so we were planning to spend a lot more time in Old Town. Externally the fort is reminiscent of some other great fort ports like Dubrovnic and Tallin but once inside the town has very much is own ...
Another beautiful day. Sunny 78 degrees on the island of Rhodes. We travel to Lindos half way down the island. To see the Acropolis were Paul spoke to the Greeks. A long climb to the top with a view to forever. Just outstanding. Back to the boat early to catch some sun by the pool.
I am going to upload a couple of pics from yesterday on Myconos to give you an idea of the beauty here.

There's Medieval castles in Greece? Who knew! We stopped in Rhodes enroute from Fethiye to Santorini, and got to enjoy the day in Rhodes town before catching the overnight ferry out. Coming into the port, there's a great view of their old castle, and we spent a lot of the day inside the "old town", exploring the Knight's Quarter, along with all the tourist shops.

... our day over it was time to catch our ferry to Athens. On our budget we chose the cheapest ticket available. Which means "Deck." But unfortunately for us what we didn't realise was that this means it is the only place on board were you can smoke. So the rest of the night with the lights on and us trying to get a nights sleep on our hard plastic benches, we breathed in the refreshing air of smoke. Shona has now got a smokers cough.
This is going to be a tough couple of days.

... all of us, and an excellent meal as well. I had Stifada which, in spite of sounding like a viagra clone, is a delicious beef and onion dish. The whole town closing up around us tonight. Some places not to re-open for months. Lots of laughs and jokes and plans to meet up again in Istanbul in a month or less. A really nice bunch. I have very much enjoyed their company these past few days. Gabby is travelling on to Kos with me tomorrow, but catching the Bodrum ferry from there only hours later.
Rhodes, Greece globalbeduAugust 28th - Rhodes, Greece
I awoke at half past three. We were docked at some large town - and had been for some time. Was this Rhodes ? I ran down to the lower deck looking for someone to ask, anyone. But the ship was deserted. I caught a glimpse of myself in a mirror. I looked like the Wild man of Borneo, I thought. Eventually I found a man in a blue suit who dismissed my worries and told me to go back to sleep. I went back to my snug spot on the oily deck and dreamed I was ...
