    ... br> By the time we got back we had covered nearly 13.5 miles and could feel it in the legs by then and were ready for a cup of tea and a sit down!

    Had a lazy evening - cooked (well heated a ready meal) at Margaret's - shredded lamb tagiatelle, with a nice bottle of red followed up with Nick's home make meringues with whipped cream we had brought down as they are Margaret's favourite Nick creation.

    We took an early morning ferry from Calais to Dover and cycled the 38km to Canterbury along nice country lanes arriving just before midday. The plan was to finish officially at the Cathedral but they wanted to charge us 10 / head! Fortunately we were able to blag our way in for free, by convincing them we were pilgrims (a likely story!).

    Kent, Maidstone

    On Bank Holiday Monday we ventured into Maidstone to bag our final county towns picture and post cards. We didn't stay long as the town didn't appear to have any endearing qualities. The County Hall itself however was up among the best that we have seen.
