... s grown, so those high-grown teas (1,200m+) produce slow growing, subtle flavours while low-grown (-600m) produce strong growing, low flavour, high 'body’ teas and mid-grown somewhere in between. The area of growth is also a determinant as well as the process itself.
I arrived in NE to find it colder and very English, with a village feel. There were British buildings and homes, hedges and flowers. I walked into NE, which was a concrete, dismal looking drab ...
... did a little ATM use and shopping - buying a Jackfruit from the local market. What we didn't know is that there are two types of Jackfruit - the kind you eat as fruit - and the kind you cook with - we bought the wrong one! The cakes looked nice but the flies in the bakery put us off. The supermarket provided us with the best find of the holidays - curry puff biscuits.....lovely. We found the Post Office with an original Post Box from Derby - the building ...
Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka skcoll... for breakfast before making our way over to the train. We couldn't find the 2nd Class cabin so I went for a look whilst Lars used the time to disappear off to the toilet. 30 seconds later the train left without us! Not best pleased but it had only cost £1. A rather perplexed Lars reappeared and we went in search of a bus to take us there instead. We had had enough of the usual slow buses so we splashed out an extra 50rps and got an aircon minibus ...
Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka aguas... the Sacred Tooth Relic - Kandy On Friday afternoon, we went to the temple of the tooth which is Sri Lanka's most important Buddhist relic, housing a tooth of the Buddha. The tooth is said to have been snatched from the flames of the Buddha's funeral pyre in 543 BC, and was smuggled into SL, hidden in the hair of a princess. It was passed from pillar to post by the army and royalty over the years and eventually ended up in ...
Kandy, Sri Lanka salcatDue to a bust up with the rip-off merchants at the Lakshmi Guest House (trebled their rates, breakfast not included, added tax on everything, no refunds - Lonely Planet recommended my ****!) Sarath from The McLeod Inn arranged for Groundsman Simon and myself to have breakfast each morning ...
Kandy, Sri Lanka leety... the top in time for dawn, and also offers the best odds of seeing the extraordinary views free from cloud. Slightly disappointingly, we were out of season, when the lights are turned off, though at least there weren't the masses to slow me down. The climb was exhausting. On advice I'd given myself three and a half hours for the hike, but reached the summit in just less than half feeling very dehydrated and light-headed - stupidly ...
Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka jamieparkins... of these forests: at Horton Plains National Park, around the town of Nuwara Eliya--a mid-sized hill station--and along roadsides. At Horton Plains, I found the Mountain Horned Agama, the bulbul, and the white eye. The habitat at was a mixture of cloud forest and grasslands with a history of potato cultivation. Horton's Plains plummet thousands of feet to the southern parts of Sri Lanka at an aptly-named place, World's End. Clouds ...
Hills of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka lraleigh... It was very atmospheric when the sun was setting and the monks were chanting in the distance. We had to stay for about 4 days until New Year had finished as travelling was manic. After that we planned to go to see the ancient sites. We met a really lovely couple from Norway. Kev was happy because not only were they good company, the guy was a photo journalist AND they live in Oslo which is one of the Ryanair destinations. Great for future holidays!!! Speak to you soon, Cheza and Kev xxx
