... amidst other adventurers. . . typically those that you share a common language with.
Its a beautiful thing in this world of strangers when you meet someone for the first time, find yourself at a cafe, and you are already deep into discussing politics and religion . . the typical taboo topics.
My other secret to traveling alone is to find an Irish or English establishment. On my walkabout this morning, I found an English pub where they serve "proper" english ...
... as possible.
You have to adapt to this style otherwise one is lost.As careful defensive motorbike riders this was a challenge.
We have arrived at the hotel and have had the parking just in front of the lobby and the terrasse bar. We decided to bring the bikes to the Harley Davidson dealer the next day and leave them there for a last service.
We have then explored the ...
... we made concessions for the culture etc etc etc. We took a 'cultural tour' to a village not far from Varna. On the way we stopped at the Stone Forest and apparently it is the only one of its kind in the world (!) unless of course you have been to The Pinnacles in Western Australia, Death Valley, US etc.
After listening and watching a group of locals sing, dance and complete local crafts all at the same time (these Bulgarians are clever ...

... up from her seat and ran around the building turning on bright fluorescent lights. Some of the paintings were really interesting. Some were...eh. The most interesting thing I saw was paintings of Veliko Tarnovo from the early 1900's and before. The town looked almost exactly the same!
Veliko Tarnovo (or V.T.) is mostly a touristy area because of the huge fort that sits on top of one of the hills. The fort was quite impressive. Some of it was reconstructed in the ...
... to be taking the more scenic route around town. It may have been the hangover or may have just been that Shona is learning to chill out more, but she wasn't to fussed, if we missed the first bus there would be another one in an hour. We got to the bus station with 10 minutes to spare, Dino ran around like a mad man looking where to buy the tickets.
Not a problem, so off we go to Varna for a couple of days just to lay on the beach and top up our tans.
... was just a tap at hip-height on the wall, but nobody cared because we got to sleep in a BED!!!! We were in dorms and I was sharing with a bunch of the girls.
Bulgaria is mostly Greek and Eastern orthodox, so we got to celebrate our second Easter Sunday. At 11pm the bells rang out into the night to call the monks to mass, and some of the group rang in Easter with a candle-light ceremony in the chapel, but I was tucked away in bed by this point!
... stopping at every station it could. Each station appeared to consist of a man with a red flag and a token drunk, who yelled Bulgarian obscenities at the train for having the nerve to travel through his town. I didn't see anyone get on or off, and given that this was an international express, it all seemed a little pointless. I took a few sips from my water and leaned out of the window. Eventually mountains began to appear on both ...
Ruse, Bulgaria englishanddrunk... whispered nearby but I could see nothing and felt comfortable that no-one could see me. The fog was still thick the following morning. I didn't sleep well and was frustrated having lain still from 8pm to 8am. My stomach turned all night after eating too much cheese and cold sausage. I'm tiring of this lifestyle. I would have taken a room last night had one been available. I might even have splashed out on a steak. I can only think that a 'yes, rooms free' turned ...
