As the clock past midnight we were still waiting patiently in the departure terminal of Perth International Airport to check in for our flight home! ... out we being walking in the direction of where we want to go, but with the aim of flagging down a taxi. We walk for a good 30 minutes without a taxi in sight before deciding perhaps a bus might be a better and cheaper option. A bus soon comes but we are told you can't travel without a pre-paid card and there aren't any exceptions (not even on New Year's Eve-boo bus man). And so we began walking again. ... tourists get issued with a 30 day Visitors Visa for free, I recommend picking up duty free on your way through, alcohol is heavily taxed here,. Arriving at night, I didn't get much to chance to see the city, as I stepped straight into a Cab and headed over to my friends apartment on the Palm.

But here are my first impressions of Dubai.... The West meets the Middle East. Tall, grand skyscrapers fill up this desert port. Status means everything here, car parks ...
