Back on the bus and back to our hotel. Went out for dinner and had a chicken and rice curry - a welcome change from noodles. The problem in Japan is that most restaurants specialise in one type of food. Noodles places may have some tempura or fish cakes as starters, but otherwise the mains will all be noodles!

There is a lot of very old people in Japan and the majority seem to be women. They ...

... beside remnants of an old moat adjoining the river. A lady had a traditional broom sweeping up all the leaves. It was late afternoon with only a handful of people around. We ended up buying some French (yeah really, no joke) shoes but made in Japan ;) Today we were ready for some old houses and ancient ...

... You get the picture. And OK, since not so long ago, the shinkansen travels to Kanazawa, but I still had this idyllic picture in mind. Therefore I was surprised to see a brand new trainstation, shops like Emporio Armani, Louis Vuitton and apparently other big brands that I don't even know of, and a lot of tourists. As the city is smaller than Tokyo, the tourists are even more obvious. We checked ourselves in at the hotel and went ...

Today we spent a few hours in Kanazawa. This city is known for Kanazawa Castle, which was established in 1580 and the Kenrokuen Garden, which is generally regarded as being one of the top gardens in Japan. Naturally, we had to go see them.

Once again we used the local bus system to get around. Easy to use and inexpensive.

We started at the Kenrokuen Garden, which is in the standard garden from the ...
