... to the monastery of Thari to see its striking 11th century murals, then noodled back to Lindos through pine woods that have recovered nicely from a major fire in 1986.
Today we had a long lunch at our favorite Lindos restaurant, Mavrikos, with Mary and her German friend Uwe. Walked up to the Acropolis, but it had close early with winter hours. Back to the Museum to visit, putter, and pack.

Mary, Shelley & Dan arrived in Lindos Friday afternoon and settled into Mary's beautiful home, aka The Museum. After a slow morning regrouping from our road trip, we headed to the main beach, which is paved with sun beds all summer but comparatively deserted now. Settling into Rosanna's Italian beach taverna, we ordered, had a swim, ate a delicious lunch of seafood risotto and fresh fish, and swam again. The aquamarine sea was clear and warm. Just too dolce for words. ...
... The security was very thorough. Most of those ahead of me in line were Turkish and they need a visa to visit the EU and their passports are screened as well as their fingerprints!
When I finally came to the agent I wondered what would be expected. After a quick scan and the wonderful sounding thump of the country entry stamp I was on my way.

... budget tickets a few days before you travel. My plan was to go by train from Athens to Thessaloniki as it is a well documented route and sounds great. My ticket cost me €29 but if you book earlier 3/4 weeks in advance you can get some tickets for just €9. Thessaloniki is going to be fun to stay tuned for that one.
Tomorrow I fly from Rhodes to Athens and into the madness of city life... I wonder if it can handle ...
... dinner and heading for sea it got a bit rough and the ship rocked and rolled a bit, not too much, but enough that at one stage 30 stacked good clean dinner plates slid off the servery next to where we were sitting, and smashed on the floor! Sufak, our waiter, yelled to another waiter, who was near the servery, to prevent a second pile sliding to devastation! ...
