... 8217;d known them since he was a kid but in fact had just met them then!!! We had our first stop at some people’s farm for a cold drink where we spoke with a local lady - Her English was very so we were able to have a nice conversation – she was very interested in us actually. As we left 2 youngsters arrived with their Ipods – unexpected!!
We hit the road again and encountered a lot more people still waving at us. We had a break next to a ...
... money to see how much they’d collected. Nevertheless, the group consensus was that in general they liked this village better than Dumazulu.
The village itself had beautiful, traditional beehive-shaped huts made of reeds, and 14 people actually lived there. We didn’t see the entire village, though, and much of what we were shown was pretty lifeless: the huts for the girls, the boys, and the empty kraals (corrals) for goats (for meat) and cows (to ...
... for blood vessel rupture/leak into the brain. It is quite sad. The only treatment for the child is to watch and make sure that it stops bleeding since it is in a sensitive part of the brain and the neurosurgeon said that they can't really do operation of the area given the type of bleed it is and his age. He said that all they can do is watch and wait to make sure the bleeding stops and hopefully his symptoms wont get worse. But he could easily bleed into his brain and die or at ...
Mbabane, Swaziland sumeeth1... he developed resistence to all the medications except one. He is currently on 4 medications (normally you only take 3) and showed up today looking deaftly ill. Poor kid was completely wasted away, and grandma said he has not eaten for 4 days. He had fungal infection of this throat and likley his esophagus and thus was not eating b/c of the pain of swallowing. Also b/c he was missing doses of the medications and not taking them as prescribed over the ...
Mbabane, Swaziland sumeeth1... good. plus i was in the middle of nowhere and it was 5 oclock by the time i got the street to try and catch a bus. Plus it was a weekend holiday and i was not sure i would be able to catch the right bus. I would have either had to stay at the camp overnite or call a cab to pick me up there which would have sucked really bad and cost me like 50 bucks or so....so this guy came thru....he did not try to rip me off at all....he was taxiing the route ...
Mbabane, Swaziland sumeeth1... if only West Africa was as easy!!! Beautiful country, an oasis of green in a bowl of mountains. Seem like a very friendly bunch with locals and kids waving. Very similar to Lesotho but a little richer I think with a lot more children going to school (at least that's the way it appears). One thing we did notice were the tree plantations which are EVERYWHERE!! Oh and the albinos.... still seeing quite a number of them. Drove through the ...
Ezulwini, Swaziland oliveramber... of Swaziland there are, but after about half an hour of driving, cows were appearing not ten yards in front of me out of the fog, so not wanting to kill innocent cattle we turned around at the Maguga Dam. On our way back down we went to the glass blowing factory which was insanely hot. Despite not getting to Pigg's Peak, I think we got the best we could out of Swaziland.
Manzini, Swaziland stephen.j.booth... local craft market which essentially is a row of shacks filled with beaded jewellry and carved wood. There was no pressure to buy anything, very relaxed, I like that. On the way to and from the craft market we took a Khombi taxi. The use of these is not recommended in SA but is safe enough in Swazi. Khombis are the locals mode of transport, so there are no frills, and a no frills fare too. It cost us R4 each to be packed like sardines into a ...
Manzini, Swaziland stephen.j.booth... day after was a fantastic day for our trip round Swaziland. In another overloaded bus and with high spirits we visited a candle making factory, where warm wax is hand manipulated into all sorts of shapes and patterns, mainly into animals. The candles from the small factory are sold all over the world and provide a stable income for many people from the local community. Starting with a ball of wax, we watched as the the man pushed and pulled the wax into an ...
Manzini, Swaziland pricklyleaf... over the hills. We cycled past a number of animals such as zebras, impala, warthogs and other animals. Cycling in the reserve was quite an experience and quite different from seeing it from a car or truck of which you normally do it by. We cycled around the whole day viewing various animals before we left the reserve where Jamie dropped me off on the side of the road and I hitched a lift ...
