Summer Breeze still comfy in the Fall!

Located right in the midst of the Emerald Coast on Scenic Hwy 98, Summer Breeze is literally steps away from the beach! From our balcony, we could hear the crashing of the surf and see the colors of the sky, sea and sand!
Our 1 BR condo had room enough for 6 to sleep comfortably, but would have been a circus with the use of only 1 bath! As this trip was for 2 and our Jack Russell, Sammy, we had no problems! The whole unit was decorated in a seaside/beach theme of colors, clever painting, interesting art/decorations and a well appointed kitchen, even with tropical/lighthouse themed dishes! The bedroom had one king bed that was comfortable enough, but I am used to a softer mattress. The only complaint was that the exterior corridor lights bled into the front room all night and made it harder to fall into slumber! Otherwise our accommodations were lovely and clean!

Disappointing Destin

So we arrived at this very nice house and we were greeted by a strange guy who immediately asked us to take our shoes off at the door. He showed us the kitchen and explained do not take food or drink upstairs so we were like ok. He said if we go to the beach we need to wash our feet on arrival and use the towel he has left outside. So after our marching orders we proceeded to bed. The next day we woke up ...

... and traditional than Seaside. The Red Bar is busy, noisy, and looks a bit of a dive, but the queue outside despite a 90minute wait to be seated hinted at the quality inside. We were not to be disappointed. My dish of blackened grouper fish (chunky fillet grilled with Cajun spices) was by far the best seafood dish I've ever eaten, and up there with some of the best food I've eaten, period. If you ever find yourself in that neck of the woods, ...

We stay at the Commando Inn on Hurlburt Air Force Base and never see any commandos...I guess if we had seen any, they wouldn't have been very good commandos. We are treated to a day of boating with my old friend Pat Kiehn. Pat and I were roommates for about six years while stationed at Plattsburgh Air Force Base in upstate New York, and we went to war together. I can't say enough good things about him, he has been a true ...

Right now we are stuck at $35,000. We need some more energy. My ride has not stopped, I'll be on the Morning News in Baton Rouge La. in 2 days and involved in a fundraiser on the 4th of July with ...

Last day at topsail

We have really enjoyed topsail hill, pretty centrally located, bike riding and mostly private beach access. Plus lakes, kayak and canoe rentals, tall pines to camp under and great staff. Today is red and purple flag day again so no beach. Hit the pool, did some bike riding ...
