Historical Traveler Reviews of Summer Bay Resort At Las Vegas
Nightmare at Summer Bay Resort Las Vegas
from A TripAdvisor Member
I want to warn anyone considering this hotel to stay away. After making reservations through Orbitiz months in advance, we arrived at the hotel find that the rooms were not even in the main building but were in a unit that looked like low income housing at best. They were nothing at all like what they advertise on their website. We refused to spend even one night in their run down, dirty accomodations.
Obviously Orbitz does not check the hotels it represents out very thoroughly. Please be don't get conned as we did. Stay away from this hotel.
Oh What a Pleasant Surprise!

we were curious and cautious because of the negative reviews we read on the internet prior to coming. we arrived in las vegas for a sorority convention on july 21st and had other accommodations for 2 days. so, we visited summer bay prior to our scheduled check-in. we shared our concerns with the front desk and they advised us where our units were. we were told that we could not look in our units beforehand because they were occupied.
as we were leaving, we met a disssatified guest and were invited to visit her room. for a time share, her unit did leave a lot to be desired.
we visited the section where our assigned units were although we did not have access to them. we decided to take a chance and check-in the next day.
WE ARE SO GLAD THAT WE DID. our accommodations were "GREAT." our only complaint is that we were so busy that we did not have time to acutally stay in the units long enough to enjoy all of the amenities. i would definitely recommend summer bay but ask the necessary questions to ensure that i would be assigned a renovated unit that meets my space requirements and expectations.
again, it was great! oh what a pleasant surprise!

A major disappointment, not even close to what is pictured on their web-site. A dump, old & run-down. We had booked 2 - 2bedroom "suites" (what a joke). The first room they put us in was just gross. It was in a little square building with an empty pool in the center. It looked & smelled like no one had been there in years. Upon opening the door, it smelled like a musty ashtray. (the smell of smoke does not usually bother me - this was nasty) the 2nd bedroom had no tv. the decor looked like 70's leftovers - avocado green & yellow. For our 2nd 2bedroom "suite", they gave us a one-bedroom. After much negotiation, we finally got the part of our group stuck with the one-bedroom into a 2 bedroom. Now we were miles apart. We finally got moved to a room near the rest of our party. The 2nd room was light-years better than the first - but still sucked. We were right on Koval, a busy street for taxis. No pool anywhere near, but the rock garden was better than looking at the little empty square from the last room. The 11 pools are just little square pools in the middle of a small 2 story open square building. Most of them are empty. The water playground does not exist. We did check out the pool in the main building & the pool in my backyard is bigger & much nicer. We talked to several people with the same story as ours, unhappy with their rooms, moving 2, 3, 4 times. We were lucky that our room was in proper working order. Many other guests were not so lucky. Beware that if you go to get free show tickets or vegas coupon books they will try to suck you into touring the timeshare. Oh, and they wanted to charge us an extra $100 for paying with cash for one of our rooms! If you are desparate enough to go there, make sure you bring a written confirmation of room type, dates & price. It saved us. Be sure to read the welcome papers. It lists all the extra fees -like $1 for shampoo (the tiny shampoos hotels have in the bathroom). On the day we were to check-out, housekeeping called (early, while we were sleeping) & asked what time we'd be gone by. Since check out is at 11am, we said by 11am. As we were loading stuff in the car, the 2 elderly people (age 90's) in our group waited in the room. Housekeeping came to the room a few mins before 11 and told them to get out - it was 11 o'clock. We were stunned when they told us what happened. Don't bother trying to talk to anyone there, they could care less. I'd never stay there again. major disappointment. Thank God we don't own a time-share there.
Not a "Resort"

This place was so-so, but not a resort. The first unit we stayed in was bad, broken air, so they moved us, no problems there. The second unit was MUCH nicer, made me wonder why they didnt put us there first. I'm glad I'm not an owner!! Ask to see your unit first. We too saw the guy with the "3 carat diamond ring" for sale. Part of Vegas local color.
"Smoke and Mirrors" at Summer BAy

Well where should start ? ...We have been owners here for many years. We have visited the facility quite a bit over the years. We arrived with questions about NEW Money issues to start the first walk into the foyer. Next was phone calls about setting up a time to go over B.S. with this place at 8:15am ARE THEY CRAZY THIS IS VEGAS!! You are up all night and want to sleep. Now for the Good Stuff: Like everyone else that took over this place promises are made but things are never completed properly. Work that is done here is "shabby & patch jobs". If they would hire real construction crews instead of butchers maybe things would only need fixing & renovating once! This time this place was a nightmare. We were 1st sent to a room down some alley in a parking lot. Not Safe! 2nd, Then to some Villa where this night our CAR was STOLLEN. Another move to towers. 3rd day ceiling fell in from aircondition. 4th & final move to another room. Oh Also, How about a towel charge and cleaning of the rooms? What the hell are you paying for when you buy this and how about the $400 plus in maintenance fees? What crap table is that getting thrown on? Is this a Vacation? ...NEXT TIME IT'S FLAMINGO. I'm Selling this cheap!
Bad service, bad bugs

We own a week of time at Summer bay- Las Vegas, and can't believe how down hill the place is going! On our most recent stay we went to the time share presentation and were shown the "lovely" rooms that will be a part of the resort now that Summer Bay has taken over. Well we have been shown those rooms on every presentation we have been on through the years, and never have stayed in a room even close to as nice as the ones they tout. They picture on the website is very deceiving as the rooms are run down. On the first night we were put in a room on the bottom floor of the complex. Since the door didn't seal on the bottom once it was closed, bugs had easy access to the room, and we found a big ugly one in the kitchen ( on the outside of the door the light comes poring out through the bottom the gap is so big!). At night we put a towel against the crack as I was wary of other bugs crawling in. We asked the front desk if we could change rooms for the rest of our stay, and at first we were told to check the next day at 1:00. The person at the desk then told us we had to check back at 4:00. We told her about the door problem and she said that she would send maintenance to put a weather strip on the bottom of the door. Well, that never happened so we went back at 3:00 to see about a room change. The nice girl at the desk said that we could have one in the main building, but that it was a studio instead of the one bedroom we originally booked. We said fine, hoping that that since we would be in the main building that the bugs would stay out. I asked her if we would get a discount on the room as the studios are less than the one bedrooms and she said that we could check with the manager the next day. The other girl at the front desk over heard and rudely told her (as if we weren't even there) that we shouldn't receive a discount as it was our "choice" to move. I started to tell her about the deficiencies with our room, but then realized she didn't care and that I wasn't dealing with her in the first place, so I decided that I didn't need to defend myself to her. We never did talk to the manager as we were just glad to be in a new room. The new room had a double bed with a bottom sheet that didn't even have elastics on the corners to hold it in place over the mattress. We woke up many times with the gross mattress exposed as anytime you moved, the sheet would come off. My husband and I started to wonder where the hell our condo fees were going as they sure weren't going towards the upkeep of the condos. We practically laughed when the time share guy tried to persuade us to buy another week of time at the resort (We were handed down the week we own by my father-in-law, and would never invest our own money to that place). With the cost of the condo fees each year we could easily stay at the Imperial Palace or Flamingo instead.
Cheapo. Changed owners 100 times

This place sucked. The pools were drained and it looked like someplace Scarface would go to to get a few pounds of yeah-yo. The inside smelled like a horse stable. It was stinky, but I think someone had hay inside the building to help with insulation on the roof or something. If you do go, bring your gun!
BUMMER Bay Resort

A very bad place to be. Old, smelly, creepy and unsafe.
We had lightbulbs dangling from the mirror fixture against the wall, doors missing the security locks, windows that wouldn't lock, and missing the screen also. With small children this was quite a concern. The headboard was broken on the bed and the mattress stuffing was coming out. Springs coming out of the pull out bed mattress. Burnt blankets. Broken ironing board, gross iron, soggy carpet by front door after rain storm. Dripping faucets, plugged toilet, DISGUSTING stuff growing in the bathtub drain. Cable outlet comes out of spiderweb filled hole in the wall with drywall flaking on the carpet. Banging "Security" gate (HA) doesn't usually lock unless you pull it shut. Keycards don't work well, one never worked. One burner on the 2 burner stove broken, no oven. Refrigerator door pops open. No lights in swimming pool or pool area. Bent blinds that won't completely close for privacy so creepy guys hanging out on steps smoking can see inside your room. Blinds blow and bang all night from wind even while windows are closed completely, but really not as annoying as the traffic on Koval, the hacking flemmy drunks in the alley, and the airplanes and helicopters that come overhead in 1 to 5 minute intervals. (I didn't hear anything all night at the hotel I checked into 2 blocks away after I left this dump) The staff repeatedly lied to me. I asked to get a TV for the bedroom (something the first room had, I checked out of it due to construction overhead), they first tell me the outlet doesn't work. I check, it does. Then they say no cable connection, there is, they say it doesn't work. I move the TV in from the living room to check it out. It works. They say, then, that they don't have a TV to give me. I ask for a remote for the one I do have. They say they will send one, it never showed even after repeated calls over 2 days. The pumps and opened barrels of pool chemicals with tubes coming out of them were easily accessible through a broken fence next to the stairs, the propped up broken fence fell over when my child touched it scaring him to death every time we went past it afterwards. I lasted here for 2 nights, the last night only tolerable because I decided to find a new place the next day. The only thing nice here was the 3 carat diamond ring the guy in the alley tried to sell me.
Don't Believe the Photos
from A TripAdvisor Member
Be wary - On the Summer Bay Resort Las Vegas website, nearly all the photos of the nice rooms and facilities are pictures of their Florida resort and NOT the Las Vegas facility. The Vegas resort is mostly a collection of old 1960's style, single-story, flat-roof apartment buildings in a 4 or 5 square block area. The 2 BR apt I reserved had fresh paint and newer kitchen and bath units, but also contained old mis-matched furniture, old linens and bed coverings, smelled musty and dirty, was poorly lit, and had window airconditioners that were completely inadequate for Las Vegas summer temps. The "convenient" walkway to the strip is actually thru the 'NO PEDESTRIAN' parking garage for the Imperial Palace that takes you right past the garbage and sewer processing area - big stink, dirty, and very poor security even for day-time walking. A portion of the walkway is also thru the middle of a major contruction site for a new mono-rail system being built with loud, heavy equipment present - not very safe. This 'resort' is completely mis-represented on the Summer Bay website.
Large rooms-nothing fancy
from A TripAdvisor Member
We found the facilities and decor fairly dated for a timeshare, but the staff was always pleasant and accomidating. The rooms in the 2 bedroom were large and comfortable for our family of six,and we were within walking distance to the strip. We were disappointed by the lack of housekeeping service. It should be noted that they are constructing a monorail station right next door. This conveinience might be outweighed by the noise it will generate
