The morning once again started off with breakfast at Claudia's house. Same spread as yesterday, but this time I decided to enjoy the eggs. Claudia said her specialty was sunny side up eggs, which happens to be my favorite as well, so I couldn't resist. Her special ingredient was to sprinkle rosemary (not to be confused with pine needles) on top. They certainly were delictable (sic). There was another couple eating with us that were from King of Prussia. Here we were 3500 miles from home, and ...
Aguas Calientes, Sacred Valley, Peru dc314Three plane rides, a taxi, a train, and now we are just a 20 minute bus ride away from Machu Picchu. But first we had to fuel up for the long day by enjoying some complimentary buffet breakfast. The usual suspects again of breads, jams, and fruit. You could order off a menu also, for something more substantial, but that was not necessary. After breakfast we went back to the room to load up on bug spray and suntan lotion. Each day I had gotten a sun burn on a different part of my body. It star...

Up early again to catch the train to Machu Picchu – the Lost City of the Incas. A three and half train journey which flew past with playing Ludo, Snakes and Ladders and talking to a lovely Mother and Daughter from Buenos Aires who at the end of the journey had virtually become family,
On arrival our luggage was taken from the station to the hotel and we went straight up the switchback mountain road by bus, sharp intimidating mountains surround you, 2000 feet of dramatic l...
Nearly 90% of people visiting only come for one day. We were lucky to be able to spend two days so this morning we booked a babysitter to enable us to go back up the mountain to explore this amazing sight.
We left early and Edgar recommended we took a walk along the Inca Trail to the Sun Gate, which is the only Easterly, entrance to the City. A recommendation at this point for anyone considering a visit to Machu Picchu (without children) is to book walking along the Inca Trail....

... Rio Urubamba which flows from down the mountain right past our campsite. When everyone had arrived we had lunch and then played some cards before “happy hour” and then had a nap before dinner, and then bed again. A relaxing end to a strenuous morning!

The third day of the hike was the longest and also covered the most Inca sites, but also ended with a hot shower and a snack bar where you could buy chocolate, chips and beer. Aguas Calientes, Sacred Valley, Peru thenahms... the morning.

Paul's and my evening, however, proved to be a bit more tumultuous than expected. At about midnight, after sleeping for a few hours, I woke up to loud commotion in the tent; Paul was making a lot of noise and then quickly burst out of the tent. Groggy, I gradually came to realize, through the smell and noises from outside, that Paul had thrown up in the tent and was continuing to violently throw up outside. Still half-asleep, I checked to see if any of my things had ...
Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley, Peru dan_the_man... the past few days. There were hot showers, a sauna (that I did not use) and as always brilliant views across the mountains. We were quickly told to go and find a tent and return for lunch to the dining room. This place really was a luxury, there were more tents than normal so a few of us could have one of our own, I took home in a spacious silver tent, I managed to make more of a mess than I had on previous nights but hey who cared.

At lunch we made a new friend, a ...

Inca Trail, Cusco, Peru claudia0105... offer pretty much the same trek, so united mice are lucky to have him as a guide, as are we. We continue with the amazing view of the river winding through the valley, with groves of bamboo and massive trees. Stopping to amire wild strawberries, passion fruits in the trees above and begonias and purple orchids lining the path. Unfortunately mid morning the feeling of eden is knocked by a bite I got yesterday (despite, 80 yes ...
Santa Teresa, Cusco, Peru escapingthenhsRight, you can see from the photos below that we were up really early in order to get on the trail ahead of all the other groups trekking up to Macchupiccu (from now on abbreviated to MP). So early in fact that it turned out I´d left my sunglasses somewhere in the Andes which I discovered as the sun rose over MP that day. For some reason, our guide was off and running as soon as we were let through the ...
