The morning once again started off with breakfast at Claudia's house. Same spread as yesterday, but this time I decided to enjoy the eggs. Claudia said her specialty was sunny side up eggs, which happens to be my favorite as well, so I couldn't resist. Her special ingredient was to sprinkle rosemary (not to be confused with pine needles) on top. They certainly were delictable (sic). There was another couple eating with us that were from King of Prussia. Here we were 3500 miles from home, and ...
Aguas Calientes, Sacred Valley, Peru dc314Three plane rides, a taxi, a train, and now we are just a 20 minute bus ride away from Machu Picchu. But first we had to fuel up for the long day by enjoying some complimentary buffet breakfast. The usual suspects again of breads, jams, and fruit. You could order off a menu also, for something more substantial, but that was not necessary. After breakfast we went back to the room to load up on bug spray and suntan lotion. Each day I had gotten a sun burn on a different part of my body. It star...

Up early again to catch the train to Machu Picchu – the Lost City of the Incas. A three and half train journey which flew past with playing Ludo, Snakes and Ladders and talking to a lovely Mother and Daughter from Buenos Aires who at the end of the journey had virtually become family,
On arrival our luggage was taken from the station to the hotel and we went straight up the switchback mountain road by bus, sharp intimidating mountains surround you, 2000 feet of drama...
Nearly 90% of people visiting only come for one day. We were lucky to be able to spend two days so this morning we booked a babysitter to enable us to go back up the mountain to explore this amazing sight.
We left early and Edgar recommended we took a walk along the Inca Trail to the Sun Gate, which is the only Easterly, entrance to the City. A recommendation at this point for anyone considering a visit to Machu Picchu (without children) is to book walking along the Inca ...

Aguas Calientes, Sacred Valley, Peru rien... we were in dire need of following three days of hiking without washing). Following a wander around and explanation from David, our guide, we were on our way to the "gringo killers", a staircase of several thousand steps that offered a couple of hours of knee crunching walking. We took it slowly - Renee with her ankle and I with my dodgy knee - and made it, with no injuries (shock horror!) to WiƱay Wayna ("forever young") an incredibly large site comprising of magnificent ...

... for dinner which was unreal again. We also got introduced to all our porters. They are gas men actually - they wanted to know who all the single girls were and would nudge each other when one said she was single which was all the American girls! There was 1 girl in that group who really got on our nerves. She was not shy about sharing personal information which no one wanted or needed to know and she just really took control of all the conversations. Alot of ...
Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley, Peru sharor... the toughest day of the walk, which included the steep ascent to the dead woman's pass at 4,200 m altitude - about a 1,200 m vertical ascent. We had a filling breakfast including porridge to help see us through. Cesar also gave us some interesting tips for the ingestion of coca leaves - by catalyzing their effect using a small piece of charcoal in the middle and slowly chewing and sucking the juices produced whilst in your mouth - this would give a good energy boost, whilst ...
